Hello everyone,

I have a problem with my truck, i was on my way out to my truck in a parking lot and there was a big puddle. My first thought was oil i got under the truck and saw it was antifreeze. Has any body had any trouble with a water pump on there 4.7 with less then 50,000 miles? Any thoughts?

Check your radiator and hoses for leaks first. I never had to do a water pump on the 4.7 I owned (60k), but they were needed on a 5.9 (at 85k) and my current 5.7 @ less than 45k. Not sure if that helps at all.

I have put 3 water pumps on my truck and I have just over 85k miles. The last 2 were within 2 days of each other because the reman'd pump I got from napa grenaded on me the day after it was put on.

The first time I had no leaks prior to it going out, I just heard a growling sound driving home. When I got home and checked the fan it was wiggling because the bearing was failing. The next morning when I cranked it up and shut it back off it poured out the antifreeze. This last time, I had been noticing a small leak for a few months before I finally changed it.

If it is your water pump, you can change it yourself. The hardest part of changing the water pump is getting the cooling fan off. They make a spanner wrench that you may be able to rent to hold the pulley still while your break the fan loose. Or you can clamp some bigger vice grips on the pulley like I did this last time.
