HID foglights

Was thinking of moving my 50 watt Hid out of my projectors and install ultra 3 in thier place have them in highbeams and love them. Have heard 35 watt works great an most 55 watts but at least person said they would melt housing Anyone using 50 watt hid for foglihhts

Putting even brighter HIDs in the OEM fog housings will turn them into ultra bright driving lights that will blind the crap out of on-coming traffic and make them useless for fog.
The bulbs might not fair all that well as the backs of them will be subject to water when it rains as they're not inside the housing like with headlights.

Last night, while driving home in the dark from watching my grandkids in their swim class, I paid attention to oncoming traffic and which vehicles caused vision washouts from their headlights. In every case, it was vehicles that had retrofitted lighting that didn't belong. For example, LEDs or HIDs in traditional light buckets. Factory-equipped LEDs didn't cause me any issues unless the vehicle pitched up on hills. It would be nice if headlamp systems with leveling and/or shutters were standard.

As Crash said, you will blind the crap out of oncoming traffic. Please don't.

Thanks, not sure I got my question answered, not going to get into the aftermarket LED as so many pro's and con's. All I would add is if the many people who have done it would ALWAYS re-align their lights afterward and check the beam pattern the majority of the time they can move from antiquated lights to modern lights and not blind anyone. Regardless of type bulb when changing type they must be re-aligned. I bet 90 percent don't align or even know how to. When I installed the HID in the projectors they were 2 inches low when I installed the ultra 3 in projects definitely 2 inches to high. I use the 25 feet (level ground) exactly from headlight to wall than measure to center of light for my ram 36 inches go to wall mark it at 34 inches and adjust the TOP to no more than 34 inches and top not bottom find the whole in fender use a socket takes 10 minutes once you find the 25 feet level ground to park it on. Did this on several vehicles and never have been flashed. Had my wife meet three times head on and she had no issues. If bulbs do not have clean cut off line throw them away. See pic of ultra 3's in projectors at 25 feet need to raise the right a little. By the way Fog lights are the same and I suspect many don't know they can be adjusted look behind light assemble behind bumper and its a simple turn knob takes about 2 minutes. Only difference is measure to middle of fog light back up 25 feet exactly and this time drop the beam 4 inches below the mid point only 18 inches for me. I put the HID in one for a test. had to really drop it to get it 4 inches below not sure i am going to leave it or not.

I used 35 watt HID bulbs in my 2017 & 2017 4th Gen projector headlights. I had heard the same thing about 55W bulbs as you have. With the 35W bulbs in I had no issues.

I also did HID fogs but didn't find the need to adjust them down or up. They seemed to be just right.

I did have to adjust the headlights when I went from halogen to HID but it wasn't hard to do.

I ran 55watts for a few years, no problems except water intrusion. But with Leds getting better, I wouldn't bother with HID anymore.

Ran Piaa ion yellow fog light bulbs for years till it melted the fog light plug/harness.

I messed around with 35W 3000K HID's I had sitting around in the fogs but honestly it was too much work to do the harness, relays and then mount the ballasts and ****.

I would never even think about 55W Hid's in the fogs, too small and to much light for the intended pattern.
Hell I ran 55W kit in the stock projectors for a few years till I retrofit and it bubbled the chrome shroud a bit.

Currently running Vled 5K Led fog for the past few years and have been very happy with them.

I also converted all the rear facing halogens bulbs to vled LED's on the RAM, I run Vled's in my S4 (Fog's/reverse) and KTM superduke (Rear running/brake lights) as well and never had an issue.
