I have a 2014 1500 Tradesman, and have done many upgrades to the interior, and a few to the exterior. I have added Homelink to my overhead Console, but can't seem to get it to work. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to program it to work using Alpha Obd?
I might add that I have navigation installed, and just replaced the compass with the homelink with compass. Everything is working except the homelink buttons.

It should work plug and play. If it is from a 2012 and under you will have issues. DO you know the part number you used?

I tried clearing codes, but I don't see any lights when I press the 1 & 3 buttons. This is the second homelink unit I tried, with the same results. So seems like the buttons aren't working.

To be clear, even with no notification in the dash cluster the Homelink module should operate standalone so long as it has power. Have you tried programming it to an opener following the directions but without the visual cues?

Yes, I have tried that, but get no response. I will try again today, and see if I can get it to work, as I have installed a new opener. I was wiped ndering if there was something I missed, that I might need to do via alpha obd. I will let you know if I succeed.

So one thing, I know there is a way to program it with the garage door motor itself, but the only way I had success is with the remote held next to the HomeLink to program. Have you tried that?

So I install gate openers. And the best way to program to a home link. Is holding the remote against the back of the rv/mirror or on the visor. Depending on the one you have. They’re almost all rolling codes now . Unless the remote has dip switch’s only in it. (No program buttons). Ceramic tint can cause issue with it opening at a distance. Any ford with iSync won’t ever work, a couple yrs of caddy’s , & a few German vehicles have some issues. Audi is 433mhz. The lights should come on when programming

I'm a garage door guy. You said it was a new opener (the thing that hangs from the ceiling). I will give you the broad strokes. It will be a two step process. First you will program the remote (hand held device) to the HomeLink in the vehicle. Second, you will program the vehicle to the opener (the thing that hangs from the ceiling) with the "learn" button or whatever your opener manufacturer calls it. You didn't say the brand name of the opener. You will have to "clear" any existing codes on the HomeLink by pressing the two outside buttons down together until the light changes indicating it has been cleared. The instructions for programming HomeLink will be found in your owners manual and not with the opener instructions. I believe HomeLink has an 800 number to help you with the programming. Notes: Some vehicles will need a "repeater" or "bridge" to speak to the opener. Some openers will not recognize a "universal" or remote "made in China". You will need the original remote.

The apartment complex that i live in, installed Craftsman door openers, (4 of them )

When tenants moved out, they had broken or lost the remotes.
I would just go to the Sears Outlet Store & get some more.
Then Sears closed stores.

That is when i found out they also use Liftmaster remotes & Chamberlain, at least since 1993

I bought Genie, before i found out that they are not compatible,
Even though Sears salesman would tell you otherwise

..................................................................

at first i needed 2 ppl to program my Ram.
1 in the Ram & me in the garage, then i discovered that the Ram was suppose to at least something like 10' from the door.

Luckily, we have not had any LOOOONG Electricity Brown Outs in the last couple years .. but now with more & more EVs, that will change.
Its a good thing our garages have Mechanical Lock Releases

I wonder if my portable Sears generator would start.
Cord Pull Start
Really old Petroleum Gas in it, would need to be drained & flushed

Drain and flush it and refill it with fresh gas and Sea Foam. And once you get it running again, try to run it for at least 15 or 20 minutes on a monthly basis.

I put fuel stabilizer in my gerry cans before filling them and never have issues with fouled gas in any small motors.
