I am aware of opening up the gates on personal opinions but I don’t know the 6.4L 2500 used market very well. What do you guys think I can pull out of my truck $$ wise? I love my 2018 black/black 6.4 powered Laramie and only have 10k miles on it but I’m getting the itch for an SRT Jeep. My truck is super loaded up and even has the 4.10 gear set and even the 5th wheel hookups but not real familiar with the 2500 used market. It’s about a $60k truck but does a 2500 hold it’s value better than a 1500 (which I know personally does not hold value very well). Let’s hear it. You won’t hurt my feelings. What should it pull on the used truck market?

Both Cummins
I’d get on autotrader and cars.com. Do a search for similar trucks, should at least give you a ball park idea.

I'm in the market for a second Ram truck and have been looking at the 3/4 and 1.2 tons. Market for the 3/4 I strong for sellers. 1/2 a bit softer but still good.

Your truck? Can't imagine your truck having an MSRP close to $60K let alone a retail sale anywhere near that. That being said if your truck was mine I'd probably post it for sale in the $45-8K range. Auto trader with same/similar specs as your truck have an asking of $44K - $49K and miles between 850 and 18K Miles. You get offered anything north of $44K i'd not turn it down.

The msrp for my hemi 3/4 ton truck was over $61k. But nobody buys them for that lol!

OP, i would scoure around on sale sites for vehicles, and maybe check out kbb. That will be a starting point. But it really boils down to what somebody will pay for it....

Skrap...it really does! It’s got just about everything but a sunroof. I did look at some others and seems the “asking price” market is in fact upper forties. Doesn’t mean people are willing to pay that much but that’s where they got them and none of those trucks have all the options that mine does. Olyelr, I suppose THAT’S the fact. It’s what someone is willing to pay!

Well, damn. My truck is similar to yours but a mega cab and couple years older so I was going off what I thought my stickered for. I'm gonna have to dig my sticker out just to see what my MSRP was.

Ask high and give some room to settle to make buyer feel good. Good luck.

You may get lucky at a dealer trading it in on the Jeep you want.
In March I traded my 14/6.4/mega 2500 big horn and they gave me 33k- I bought it 4 years prior and 50k miles ago otd for 39k- I couldn’t say no.

I've found dealer trade offers to be laughable at best. You can usually get their best offer, add 5-10% and sell pretty much instantly on Craigslist or Truck Trader. Of course, dealers make a living off of moving numbers around with trades, new vehicles, msrp, invoice price, incentives, rebates, etc, etc, so be careful if you go that route.

Your truck probably had an MSRP around 68K and could have been had at a discount dealer like Dennis Dillon for 54K. So, how much depreciation do you suffer for 1 year old and 10K miles? Hard to say. The 4.10 gears are a plus for sure. Slightly used is also kind of a plus. For some reason a large % of the population is convinced they are saving 35% by buying slightly used (not realizing the truck may have just been pulled off the bottom of a lake). Anyway, without doing any research I'd say 45-48K isn't unreasonable.

Edit - Wait! I was thinking Cummins..... so, subtract 9K from msrp, roughly 7K from what you should have paid and probably 6K from what you can expect to get. So, you're probably closer to 40K.

Took it to Carmax and they offered $42.5k. We get a tax savings here if we trade so that’s like them giving me about $43800 if I bought one of theirs. I listed on auto trader for $46900 so we’ll see how it goes. I’m going to guess that’s about what they would list it at if I sold it to them so somewhere in between is likely where it will fall. Not in a hurry. I’ll post back if/when it sells.

Wow, that's a pretty good number. Did you run it through KBB or NADA to compare? I just did what I could out of curiosity and came up with 40K but I don't know what zip code you are in. Also, I couldn't find where to add the blackout package so that may be reducing what I found a bit.

I'm always fascinated by Carmax. I just don't understand how they can compete with dealers and all the bait/switch and general lying/cheating/stealing that we have all come to know and love :)

I have a 2016 of the same truck but a Big Horn. I paid $40 or $42 for it. I think the MSRP was about $52.

What did you pay for yours?

Carmax is really a crapshoot. Sometimes they are strong, sometimes they are weak. I’ve sold a few cars to them over the years because they just came in strong.

Kind of a regional thing. Down here, heavy duties sell better than half tons. Trade on my 18 is $44K

I just ran it through NADA and they have average trade of $42300 so that’s pretty close. Average retail $48500.

I'm needing a work truck with a non-shortbed (no 5ft something, need the 6ft something bed) turns out it's rare in the F150/RAM1500/Silverado 1500 side but it's the starting point on the 2500 side of things.

If I can unload my unlimited rubicon sooner rather than later, and you still have this, I may be interested. I'll keep you posted. DON'T trade it in if you can hold off though, as I'm sure you know, they always give themselves a $2-4k padding where we (the customer) loose out. I'm in the same boat as you with my jeep, not in enough of a hurry just yet to trade it in and loose a couple more grand.

Good luck with a private party sale though!!

oh, also wanted to ask - how many miles does yours have? I was looking at another 2018 2500 laramie with 20k ish miles and the trade in at a dealership was at something stupid low like $35k-38k. This one had a good bit of the things EXCEPT for the moon roof. I think the only thing it was missing was the 4x4 off road pkg and the ramboxes.

And then the dealership's asking price was in the low 40s - makes me so mad I could spit! haha

Here’s what it has on it over and above what comes with it being a Laramie with the 6.4:

Leather buckets with rear heated seats
Convenience group (auto headlights/wipers)
Sport Package (adds lots of stuff)
5th wheel gooseneck prep package (mount ready)
4.10 Gear Set
Anti spin Rear Dif
Clearance Lights
Cargo Cam (love having this actually!)
LED Bed Lighting (love having this too)
Body Colored running boards (not the regular tube steps)
Black Painted Wheels
Uconnect with the onboard NAV
Spray in bed liner
I added the front OEM recovery hooks from off-road kit

I think that’s it. The thing is spectacular really. Just gettin’ that itch for the SRT Jeep.

Have you checked what the dealer would offer you for your jeep yet? You might be pleasantly surprised. I know I was. They offered me what I thought I might be lucky to sell it outright for.

And yes, full size short boxes are tough to find in a half ton. You cant get the super short one in a 3/4 ton though.
