I am going to pick up am new travel trailer on Monday , I did order air bags form the rear but I wont have them by the time I go to get the trailer. The trailer is about 5000lbs and the hitch weight is about 500-550lbs. I will be hauling it empty as all I'm doing is taking it home. How much sag can I expect from this, I just don't want it to be lower in the back than the front like i see so many trucks sitting. I do have a weight distribution hitch with sway bars but it has never been on this truck and ill need to install it on the trailer and try to set it up at the dealer. Truck is a 2015 hemi, 3.92 rear, crew cab with 6.4 bed . I checked my options list yesterday and it has the class iv hitch, I just see the rating on the receiver , what's it good for?

If you haven't leveled your truck you probably have 2-3" of rake "ass higher than the front " without the weight distribution sway bar attachment and 500lb hitch weight I'd say you'd be about level maybe a tick low in the rear but you'll be fine .

Once you get the weight distribution kit and air bags you will be fine even with the camper loaded for use .

The 3.92s will help , if you have the 8 speed you probably will loose 8th and maybe 7th gear with pulling 5k .

Please post here your outcome , I'd be interested in how it turns out .
How long is this pull gonna be ?

I have a 14 with the 6 speed & 3.55s , I hauled a camper 7500 lbs dry weight for a buddy and my truck did " ok " , I wouldn't want to haul anymore than that though !
Good luck !

my truck isn't leveled, outdoorsman on the factory 20's . It's about a 4 hour drive home with the trailer. Alot of hills on that highway route too. I do have the 8 speed as well

You'll be fine , if you plan on using the camper a lot , you may consider 4.56 gears , but only if you plan on larger tires for non pulling operation. Your 8 speed is geared a bit lower in the lower gear ranges , so everyday driving on stocks may be a bit low for ya with the 8 speed xsmn and 4.56.

Again please post your pull home results here , inquiring minds want to know ...

Having towed my 30' travel trailer with a dry weight of 5,500lbs (add about 1k more loaded) over 7hrs and almost 400miles I can say these trucks with 8spd and 3.92's are great on power. Even with the wd hitch not properly set up, power was never lacking and the truck did great.

As far as sag, the above truck I had had a level so needless to say airlift's were needed to maintain a somewhat level look. I'd say with airlifts and a properly set up wd hitch you will be fine.

BTW, when I first picked up my travel trailer I did not have airlifts for the 2hr trip back home and it managed just fine with 700lbs hitch weight. There was about 2" of sag in the rear (again wd hitch not set properly).

yeah my truck isn't leveled so it still has the rake, it should be ok with just the WD hitch until my air bags show up. I just don't want the nose up while towing

The weight distribution hitch is not only for the weight, but also for sway protection- at least some what. I have a 27ft trailer, loaded I get ~6000 lbs. If I go on highway trips I always have a separate sway bar on it.
If you are unsure, measure the height of your hitch. then hitch the trailer to it and measure how much the truck goes down. set the hitch up that it goes down ~3" and you're all set. The problem is, if you don't use WD Hitch and your butt goes down too much, the front axle gets too light and if you pass a transfer truck, you will know what sway is.
The WD Hitch is usually pretty simple to set up. good luck.

You'll be ok. My TT is 6850# dry weight and 8100# loaded with a 1050# tongue weight. And mine is a 6 speed with 3.55 gears. Not ideal, but it pulls it just fine.

I do have a WD hitch and the bars, I'll set it up the best I can in the parking lot at the dealer, I just can't see the frame of the trailer until I get there, it should fit, the brackets for the bars need to mount to the trailer, I'll meed to dig the hitch out and see if they bolt right through and I'll need holes drilled or they mount around it, I can't remember

With the 6 speed the tow/haul button is your best friend IMO while towing. Can't speak for the 8 speed but if your travels will be hilly you may want to use it

what hitch do you have? mine has the two brackets for the chain and the bolts are just pressed against the frame- no drilling needed. It's pretty simple.
Don't know if that matters- but the dealer, where I bought the hitch forgot to put the ball in and I had to drive 20miles back to get the ball- make sure you have it- it usually does not come with the hitch how I learned the hard way...
once you did it, you'll see- it's not a big deal to set it up.

I believe it is a Reese, still didn't dig it out but it does have the 2 bars and the chains that hook into the brackets then lifted and pinned in place. The hitch I have already has the ball and everything. The trailer isn't coming with a new WD hitch, it's supplied by me. I will also be using the tow/haul

Well I went to buy the trailer. It was a bit lower inside than I liked so I found a totally different one and bought it. It has a dry weight of 6900 but I didn't take it home, needed to be inspected so they are going to deliver it for me. Heavier than I wanted but it Wil pretty much be parked all this year. Just towed about 1.5 hours there and parked. Shod be ok and next year I'll be back into a diesel. Much sturdier trailer though, and it shows in the weight it's a keystone hornet 28bhs, over all length about 32 feet.

Yeah I think so, I'll still get the air bags in but also have a WD hitch, just need to set it up after the trailer gets delivered.

I got the springs cause I was loading a golf cart in the bed and I also wanted to level my front. Now that I got wide and stopped hauling the cart with the camper the bags would have been all I needed
