How to debadge... The right way!

I really appreciate people taking the time to post “how to” threads. This one helped me remove my “RAM 1500” badges easily. I left the other ones on (HEMI, 4x4). I think it looks a lot better without those giant emblems on the doors. Wouldn’t you agree?

The tailgate badge has holes for prongs in it. If you remove the rear badge you will have holes showing.

Only way around this is to have the tailgate shaved and filled to cover the holes.

I am going to experiment with PlastiKote in body colour on the remaining Ram badge on the tail gate in an effort to make it disappear

is there anyone manufacturing replacement badges for the Rams head on the tailgate

I just don't care for it, perhaps someone is making something better looking ....

Thanks to Trupiano and all the rest who finally convinced me that I could tackle this mod. When I bought my Express two years ago, I wanted to have the dealer debadge it, but my sales guy talked me out of it. He said the "RAM 1500" would "grow on me!" Like nail fungus it did!

Finally this summer I stopped by my favorite body guy to ask how much he'd want to do the job. He said he does it all the time, but uses a putty knife with rounded corners to lift the plastic and then uses a wheel. I mentioned fishing line and he had never heard of that.

I reread every post in this thread three times before proceeding. I figured I could take it to my body guy if I screwed things up so this afternoon under a blazing sun, I tackled the dealer emblem first. It went so smoothly. I did end up putting on a pair of gloves to protect my keyboard playing fingers. Using 10 lb. test, I did break several times, but it was because I was trying to pull rather than saw. By the time I got to the second side, I felt like I was a pro.

The truck is just 2 years old and has seen 2 Wisconsin winters, but the 3M came off nicely. The Goof Off did the trick on the residue. A quick wash and a paste wax brought out a shine that shows no ghosts!

The first photo shows a reflection of my trailer's stone guard. I am thrilled with the outcome. Thanks to all for giving me the confidence to proceed!

I just debadged mine. I have to say, the pull method, doesn't work if your badges have been on there for the last 4 yrs, lol. Mine keep breaking. After I got most of it off, I took the rest off in under a min with the wheel.

Thanks for posting the pics! I was having trouble finding a black truck with chrome wheels debadged. Seeing those pics made up my mind and I'll be doing mine this weekend.

I'm having trouble finding a true side view of a completely debadged black quad cab with chrome wheels. I've got everything off except for the HEMI badges, and can't decide if I take them off or leave them on. Does anyone have a photo to upload? It would be much appreciated.

Notices after it rained you can still see the "RAM 1500"..

Will polishing and waxing get rid of this?

I used some clay bar to remove the "ghosting" of the emblem letters.

Just did mine today, same color, waxed 2 times, like new.

Did you use a drill to wax or by hand?

I noticed i have minor scratches so may use some rubbing compound then polish and wax with turtlewax?..

Did this to my truck this past weekend, and this method really helped. I did run into problems with the Hemi emblem as that seemed more of a putty than a double stick tape like the other emblems and door molding, but I picked and picked at it with my fingers until it was pretty clean then used my orbital polisher and some polish then wax and it looks great. Thanks to the OP for sharing that pulling method!

Just "debadged" today! Side of the truck looks sooooooo much cleaner...

I let mine sit in the sun to sort of "soften" the foam and glue up.
Letters came off like a charm with the fishing line.
Peeled the foam sticky numbers and letters off with my fingers (which are sore now!)

The used some of that liquid adhesive removal until clean.

Washed the area and rinsed. Applied 2 coats of wax.

pretty, smooth, and clean now!

Thanks so much for the writeup. This is probably the 5th vehicle I've debadged. Removed the driver's side RAM 1500 last night and was pulling at the wrong angle. Pretty much scraped off the adhesive piece by piece. Watched the video today at work and took care of the passenger RAM 1500 no problem tonight. Before / During / After and a outside shot of the max steel sport just to picture *****.

Did this tonight. Started with the 4x4 in the back and I must say, it was a PITA to start. Once I got used to the OP's technique though, I was pulling the tape off with one hand. Couldn't find the Naphtha stuff, so used Goof Off. All is well now....Thanks OP!!

Who would have thought this was the easiest mod ever?

I was a little leary of scratching the hell outta my paint, or that Goo Gone/Goof Off marring the surface.

Can't believe how much a difference this made in the appearance of the truck!
