How to eliminate exhaust rasp

Just installed JBA 7/8" LTs with catless mids and a Flowmaster Delta 10 series with no resonators and holy crap is this thing raspy as hell... It's to the point where I don't even want to drive the truck cause it sounds so bad and will eventually get me pulled over. I was told to change the muffler from the Flowmaster 10 series to the following muffler - https://www.magnaflow.com/products/...nterdual-straight-through-performance-muffler I am hoping this will help eliminate the rasp and wanted to get some input from the community before purchasing.

Also has alot to do with your pipe diameter and muffler. Small pipes generally make rasp. Creds to you for not wanting to be that guy ur doing us all a favor. [emoji106]

Thank you for the input. My pipe diameters are 3 inch to the muffler then goes to 2.5" from the muffler to the tail pipes. I was thinking about just installing resonators before the tail pipes to see if that would help but not sure that would take the rasp away. Not sure what to do..

You need a muffler with glass packing to help with resonance. Noticed the same thing when catless longtubes were installed, swapped my spintech 9000 for a cherry bomb salute and 95 percent of the rasp was immediately gone.
The salute is essentially the same design as that Magnaflow, but it’s <$50 for 409SS.

Most any single exhaust is gonna have rasp. I used to deal with this with my old fbodies. A true dual exhaust with a crossover will smooth out the sound. I ran dual 14" magnaflows and they were my favorite setup I've ran. Long tubes with no cats, 2.5" pipes with x crossover. You can put a bandaid on a single exhaust using resonators but it will never sound as good.

Thanks, the body is 14” long and overall 20. An 18” body might be just what you need to overcome your resonator deletes. Can always add them back if still unhappy.

Def one of the best sounding setups IMO. If I ever go LT route I def might be copying this set up. I’ve really liked what I’ve read on those DT headers.

There is a lot more at play than just cats and resonators. Their DOHC engines alone sound completely different than the pushrod hemi

The tri-y sound is going to be a tough one to replicate. They go from four 1-3/4” primaries to dual 2-1/8” then to single 2-1/2” collectors merging both downpipes into the 3” OEM mid.

Update: Should have the muffler today and will be getting it installed tomorrow morning. I will post back once its on and how it turned out sound wise.

 

[Magnaflow]

Catless long-tubes with aggressive mufflers is a recipe for a lot of rasp. We would recommend adding something to increase the muffling ability of the exhaust system. This could be in the form of a larger muffler, and additional muffler or some form of catalytic converter.

Our resonated X mufflers have been a popular remedy for this issue because of how much they deepen the overall exhaust tone without quieting it down too much. We'd be happy to help with the part number for the correct unit if you are interested in going this route!
