I drive a 2012 Ram 1500 Crew Cab with the Hemi 5.9, I'm run 37" tires on it right now. I know I would get better MPG if I went with smaller tires but I like the way it looks and rides. Smaller tires are an option after these wear out. What are some suggestions that could possibly get me more MPG?

buy a 4 cylinder
best decision i ever made
trucks arent made for mpg. and with a lift it just kills mpg.

but you could do:
cai, tuner, exhaust, and dont speed for starters.
but that all would be well over $1000 and would take a while to break even. would probably gain maybe 3mpg. and with a nice exhaust you are more prone to go WOT. meaning youd drop mpg

Wheels,
its just not going to happen. I have had 3 Hemi trucks. You can get a few miles like the guys have said, but it also comes at a cost. You may break even on them at best. Just drive, enjoy the truck and don't worry about it.

You've got 37" tires and are worried about mileage? Buy another car - that's what I did in the past because lifted trucks and good gas mileage are like oil and water, its just not going to happen.

Bolt ons won't get you 3 mpg. What got me 3+ MPG on my last build was a gear swap. Highway MPG only went up about 1mpg.

Gears work best around town because you give your truck that torque it lost with those taller tires. Less effort to get rolling = better MPG.

Don't do it for MPG alone though because as some have mentioned, upgrades to help increase MPG usually take a long time to pay off.

Really, a gear swap was the best mod I ever did on my last truck. Huge improvement in drive ability, less stress on the transmission and the improved MPG was the bonus.

3 mpg highway or city? What did you come from/go to?

Not worried about MPG, if I was worried I would take the lift and tires off. Just thought I would get some good advice from some fellow Dodge owners that is all.

The best way is to be aware of how you usually drive now, and then drive more conservatively. Go easy on the skinny pedal.

Hypermiling is pretty interesting. I've been reading about it.

Semper FI, by the way. I'm about to get out myself.

I read an article and seem some videos. I don't know if it's a good idea. At times you shut the engine off at the light....other times your just coasting to a stop light...then not going over 60 mpg on the highway...then other instances your following another car and using wind resistance...it's alot of work especially for a big ass truck that, weights 4500-500 pounds.

In the video I saw, it was a guy driving a dodge neon or a go metro that was a stick....it was a small ass car.

Yeah, some of it is very extreme but there are some useful things that could be easily done in a truck. There was an article about a guy doing an Ecodiesel recently and he got 38 MPG (I think).
