How To: Install a 2018 4C (UAQ/UAS) Radio in 2013 - 2017 RAM

Can this swap be done with a Canadian import 2014 Sport. I don't have uconnect cell capabilities (shark fin hardware, 911 etc) . I'm sure the swap would he successful but im more concerned about software problems putting in a unit that once had those capabilities but doesn't anymore. Unless id be lucky enough to find a used head unit from up North but not a clue how I would go about tracking a Canada spec one down then confirming it was off a Canada spec truck.

...unless Alfa obd has these options?

Thanks! I think I have Benny qued up in some PMs on the other forum. I'll hit him up . If anyone has any thoughts on if a US one will work let me know .I suppose it wouldn't be any different is the pre US UAQs would work in a Canada one. I'll ask him alsob

Not sure if you're looking specifically for the UAQ, but I've installed a (US) UAS in my '14 Canadian with no issues at all. I didn't/don't have the cell connection either and no problems have arisen.

Nah not 100% dedicated to the UAQ. I like having nav but I know ill use android auto so much more anyway Just was looking for someone like you to chime in. Can't thank you enough for the input. Did you have to use a 911 bypass harness? One of the sellers on eBay has stated if no 911 service is present already a bypass harness would have to be used. I see that listed as an optuon on M2 harness form. Is this one in the same @Mpgrimm2 @DeereGuy ?

It's been my experience so far that the UAx radios do not need the bypass cable. I have to admit now that waze is available on carplay, I haven't used the built in NAV since.

DeereGuy and I only sell through the forum or direct referrals from other customers that have our contact info.

For some reason, even the 18 UAS/UAQ USA radios don't give a Cell Service error message, so no bypass plug is needed with them. That may change with a software update at some point.

Wonder if its a safe bet to throw the bypass on there just in case? And I didn't mean the harness mentioned on eBay and the ones made by you guys are the same I just wasn't sure if what they were describing as a 911 bypass can be achieved by using the harness you guys make in addition to the conversion harness

Yep, as MPGrimm2 and Deereguy mentioned, I didn't need the 911 bypass.
I've been happy with Waze/Google Maps and doubt I would benefit from the built in navigation if I had it. However, I'm pretty sure turn-by-turn navigation doesn't show up in your evic with Waze. I haven't flashed in the code; suppose I could try that with the AlphaOBD.

I'm not sure on carplay but with Android Auto it is possible, not easily though. But that kind of defeats the purpose of carplay/android auto which is to keep us from using our phones!

Can you tell me how? I spoke with BlueDriver this morning, they stated that adding it to CarPlay/android auto is in the works.

Not sure about android auto, but CarPlay won’t allow it. For example, if you’re using waze through CarPlay displayed on the 8.4, as soon as you open your phone and go to the home screen, waze will close on the 8.4 display and the CarPlay main menu will be displayed. If you open up an app on your phone that isn’t supported by CarPlay, the CarPlay main menu screen will continue to be displayed on the 8.4 screen until you open up a CarPlay supported app.

Does anyone know how the security code that came with my new unit is generated? Is it the last four of the donor VIN or something? I'm thinking about selling my old unit so I assume it would be triggered in anew vehicle.

Nope, it's radio specific. It's the same in every vehicle. I got my code at the dealership parts counter for free. Just needed the serial number and the VIN of the vehicle it's being installed in.

I'd leave that up to the buyer.

You can get the code for your old radio from the dealer for free, or here for about $15 ...

I tested being able to use my phone while running apps on Android Auto (Waze for example) and all fully function without shutting anything down (truck in drive, just not moving anywhere). However, the phone locks itself after a short period of no use. There may be a way to change that but I believe Android Auto does that as intended.

Thanks. I ended up taking an old phone and leaving it connected in the center console. Now I use waze from that while my phone is playing pandora and viewing my gauges. It works better than I thought.
