It keeps any debris/metal that are in cooler/lines from contaminating the new transmission.I have 2018 2500 with 6.4 hemi. the transmission needs replaced and the dealer wants to change out the cooler and lines. is this a thing.
Will a Dodge Dealership put in the bypass. I have no idea on any of this stuffYes. Most RFE transmissions fail from too much heat. Ancillary equipment needs to be replaced with the transmission. Yes, this is a "thing" if the thermostat bypass isn't removed. Don't put another one back in or it will fail again at the same mileage. Put in a "bypass" block from RevMax. Then use oxidation-resistant trans oil. Red Line +C ATF is a favorite around here for buttery-smooth shifting.
And yes, that is what I have in my 66RFE transmission.
The factory lines probably have a spot for the thermo valve, they might want to put it back for legal reasons as well, so you might have to dyi after, see video below, locate it on your truck, easy swap. Redline c+ is a great upgrade but they will need it all when they fluid up, like 14 quarts maybe more for a hd might want 20 on hand or 5 gallons extra is fine no shelf life. You really need this simple upgrade too, but again they will need it now. Is the trans being put in now? Will a Dodge Dealership put in the bypass. I have no idea on any of this stuff

So the thermo valve is a terrible fail point, the bypass looks identical but has no valves, just flow.

I would buy that exact metal thread upgrade, many RAM forum guys bought that, and it's a bargain. Other brands often fit loose, those are tight. The plastic threads that come with the filters often break and there goes the transmission, it is a one time purchase. Even if you miss it on install still get it, next time a fluid change then install it 60k miles at most.In the next two weeks
Sorry if I missed it and not sure if it changes anything but are we sure OP has a 66RFE tranny? I thought right around 2018 was the change from 6spd RFE to 8spd.
Thanks. 72KHow many miles did your transmission have on it when it crapped out?
I picked one of these up a few years ago.
So every year both of the vehicles that we have with auto transmissions get 4 quarts sucked out and 4 new in. Takes 5-10 minutes and everything is done from under the hood. Then every 30-40k they get a pan drop and filter change. I have a measuring bucket I use to see how much comes out. I've got 141k on my 66rfe and knock on wood no problems so far.
