2018 Ram 2500 6.4 Hemi 66RFE transmission

Left Ohio end of October after having my transmission serviced. Got to flordia and seen spots on concrete pad. Front gasket of transmission pan has a slow drip, checked all bolts and all tight. Called shop that did the work and was told to keep a watch on the fluid and add as needed and they will tend to it when I get back home in April. So question is it’s right in between the cold check and hot check. How much fluid do I need to add to bring it up to full.

Wild one is correct, but my best wild @ss guess is between 1/2 pint and one pint...

It's why they want you to check hot - so it doesn't push out the breather. Had that happen once on an Allison 1000. Going down the road with a smoking tranny gives you heart palpitations.

if you are checking it hot (in drive with the park brake set, right?) and it is showing on the dipstick as between the hot and cold hash' it is pretty low id say

I states to check it hot in neutral, not like the old ones in park. Even states that on dip stick which I did not know. Yes it’s in between the cold and hot check. I added 1/3 quart yesterday and have to drive and check later today.

Mopars have been hot in neutral for as long as I recall. Usually says how to check embossed on the dipstick.

Did they use a gasket or gasket maker? Personally I only use gasket maker, never had a drip, but you are supposed to wait over night before you add fluid. It should never drip, and I am sold on gasket sealers for the engine, but no way am I using anything in the transmission. Just have to drop and pan and reseal it.

They said they used Mopar gasket, and never again. I’m the 3rd one with a leak, don’t remember what they were going to. Used approximately 10 oz in 1800 miles to bring it back to full. Just have to keep a watch on it.

Never heard of a Mopar trans gasket, as they come from the factory with RTV.

A bunch of us use LubeLocker without leaks. Believe us or not. Up to you.

And your answer of {they said} is why I an others like to purchase our own parts, that we know for sure what brand was purchase and not worry if we got lied too about the brand of parts being used, btw when I had a my old 2006 trans service I had a dealer in IA reused the factory gasket, it never leaked and when I sold it with 118K it still was not leaking...

Well I guess if your not 75 and know exactly what part is going to fail on a simple fluid change it would be a great idea to buy and do your own work, which is not the case here. I used a trusted shop and they are standing in back of there work and repairing this when I return. I will give them your suggestion and thanks for your input. This is my 3 Ram but first one with the 6.4 just to get away from all of the diesel issues on the newer trucks.

Both my 22 and my 24 3500s have gaskets on the transmission pan. No rtv...

There is a strong chance that they got fake mopar gaskets from some online supplier. They often don't even look like the authentic one when observed side by side.

My last tranny fluid and filter, I ended up with one of the fakes from what I thought was my usual supplier through Amazon. You have to be very careful with Amazon, sometimes they substitute a different supplier posting when the one you thought you were dealing with is out of stock. Sometimes the supplier just switches sources when they get a really good deal (for them, not you).

I was very glad that the original one was still in excellent shape (as it should have been at less than six months old). I opted to reuse it instead of risking the wrong looking one, which was actually all rubber, instead of the factory cork.

So the $1000 question, would you just keep checking and add as needed for 3 months until I get home or pay a shop to replace especially not knowing what they would use. I added 10 oz in 1800 miles

You can buy an OEM transmission pan gasket for cheap, buy it your self that way you know its the correct gasket for them to use, then its up to you if you pay another shop to fix the leak or wait an keep adding ATF as needed until your back home...

if it is only 3 months just keep checking it,. Because I like to do what I can with my own two hands, I don't trust dealers for nada.
