So I just bought a 2016 Ram 1500 Laramie 5.7 Hemi from a dealership in Thursday and am financing. Ever since I took it home, the knob shifter is flashing “d”, the dash is flashing “do not shift out of drive, service transmission”, and all my electronics are acting up (heater/heated seats/radio will go in and out, parking sensors turn themselves on and off, and the remote start does not work). We know it’s not the transmission or engine, and we got the battery, alternator, and starter tested at Advanced. We have also checked all the fuses. Turning it off and turning n works for a little bit, but then it starts acting up again. How do I fix this issue?

Battery was my first suspect but assuming your test was correct I would probably start checking grounds. Make sure they're all intact, take them off and clean them up and reinstall.

Thursday as in 4 days ago? Have you called them back, I’m sure they don’t give you the truck, are they not going to do something for you? It’s been 4 days, you didn’t buy a 2003 Ram, it’s 10 year old truck

Did you buy it “as is” with no warranty? My first step would be a return trip to the dealer, not a phone call, an actual trip back. What part of your story is missing?

Yeah, dealer return things aside, I'd lean towards the battery. It's amazing how many issues here get cleared up with a new one. Even when reading good. It's just an easy thing to do to rule a lot of problems.

If it did this "ever since you took it home", your first trip should have been right back to the dealer. Hopefully, they will do something for you, not sure what your terms were.

Wish you the best, please keep us posted.

They’ve stopped responding to calls or texts about it. I know it’s 10 years old but it’s still one of the newest trucks I’ve had and can afford. I’m just looking to see anyone can help me

Dealer has stopped responding to texts or calls and I bought it “as is”, as far as they’re concerned it’s not their problem.

That sucks.

As @Ken226 asked, you need to see what codes are present in the system. Our Rams can be very finicky at times, and battery/ground/connection issues can cause weird stuff.

Checking codes will at least give you a starting point, and you're in the right place for help.

Hang in there.

Did you get it from a "Buy here Pay here" dealer? It sounds like it. Those places are predatory, to say the least. Your best bet is to contact your local Better Business Bureau, or a local news station that has an "On Your Side" reporter. Good luck

For complaints forget about bbb. Go to the motor vehicle dealer board.

Flashin D is bad news in my experience. My 2016 required a new tranny at 59k. The error codes said something about clutches.

If it were me, I would drop it off on the dealers lot and refuse to make payments and demand your deposit back! And I was a dealer, years ago!

You have an electrical Gremlin.

Check all ground connections for clean and tight.
Check all B+ connections, same as above
Check the harness connection to xmission, same as above.
Check battery, at rest. Is it above 12.2 VDC?
Check battery, running. Above 13.8 VDC?
Get a load tester (about $20 at Harbor Freight). Test the battery under load.
Inspect to ensure some critter didn't chew the harness anywhere / check for physical harness damage.

You should heavily document everything, write a letter to dealer and send it certified return receipt requested that provides all of the information and ask them to contact you to schedule service. This may not result in any action but it is a step in the right direction. Contact your State business licensing office and file a complaint. Also you can open a complaint on Better Business Bureau. All of these things can hit the dealer where it hurts. You could also reach out to a lawyer or legal aide to see if they can at least help draft the letter. Good luck.

Have you scanned in for codes yet?
Yeah the only thing that pops up is the “girl shutter circuit” but I’m wondering if that’s because it just isn’t getting the power that it needs

We got the battery tested at advanced and they said everything was testing fine, but we will see if we can get the specs for it. Will look at all of this next, thank you! Will keep you updated

What are you scanning it with?

There's no way you have the dash all lit up and aren't getting anything. Not even a "lost communication with ***"? Unless your using a 10$ code reader from Amazon or something.

If it is drivable, maybe go by a O'Reilly's or Auto Zone and have them scan it for you.

You need the ability to connect to and scan all of the various modules on the network. A cheap code reader pretty much only connects to the gateway module, and reports the OBD information from the gateway module. It doesn't gather data from the individual modules.

It sounds like you have a communications problem on the canbus net. Look up under the driver side floorboard, up by the emergency brake pedal and make sure the big BCM connector is plugged in and that the locking lever isn't dislodged.
