I just installed a new Volant CAI on my 2014 Ram Hemi. Having used other Volant kits in the past, I thought by now they would have solved some of there design problems, but not quite yet!!

The quality of the kit is great, but the install is a pain and the directions are crap. After following the directions for an hour, I figured out what had to be done, and I threw away the directions and got the dammm thing installed.

I had to take it completely apart twice to get everything aligned, and once more to get the filter on the intake horn....dumb thing seemed too small, and finally had to pry it on. I don't know why they included a clamp, as the filter will NEVER come off....ugh

Anyway, I bought the Volant over the S&B because the S&B requires the inner fender to be removed...too much work for me.

Actually, I think the included Donaldson dry filter is the best thing going, and that is the primary reason I went with Volant.

I only have about 80 miles on it so far, but it has a nice sound under WOT, and my butt dino tells me there is a tad (vary vary small) increase in low end torque....it seems to be a bit spunkier when backing out of my driveway.

Overall, I did not expect too much in performance increases and it is too soon to tell if there are any mpg increases (I might expect 1/4 to 1/2 mpg). BUt it looks very nice and I like it....:favorites13:

I got about 1-2 MPG's back when I installed my Volant. Definitely not a straight forward install. Had to pull mine apart a few times to get it aligned. You're right about the filter. I had to remove the adapter from the housing to get the damn thing to go on. One problem I did face was the breather hose they supplied was too short. Had extra tubing lying around and fixed the problem.

Mine was a pain to install as well. I almost had to jump on it to get in place lol

I have read about installation issues on the Volant before but I am still going to go with it myself. Mainly for that filter and I like their snorkel design better than the s&b.

You can buy that filter or one just like it to fit just about any intake you choose. Don't buy a Volant just for that filter if they are a PITA to install.

When I installed my Volant, it wasn't bad at all. I really liked the quality, look and the snorkle.

:)

What made you change your CAI from Volant to the Vararam?

Because I lowered the truck and wasn't comfortable with the snorkle being so low and hitting stuff...

Actually, last Christmas Eve, I hit a cat with the snorkle. The cat was fine, he was just not expecting that thing to be hanging down below my front bumper, so he got clocked in the head with it, lol!

That's hilarious! Oh how the mod list keeps getting longer. Sorry if its getting old by me asking you questions. I know I've asked a lot so far haha.

Maybe I should buy one of these? Being married to my wife, it's probably the only way I'll get ***** anymore.

I also thought about the snorkel, but am afraid that it might suck in water and hydro lock the engine. ...i dunno

I gotta ask....did you feel a difference between those 2 intakes?

I think it would take some deep water and a lot of pressure for that to happen. Unless I don't see it being able to happen. If you are worried about rain and such there isn't going to be enough to do anything.

I felt a little difference over 40mph. The Volant is a good unit though, and the power difference would not justify what I did.
I did it mainly for lowering the truck and not wanting to hit cats and other speed bumps with my snorkel, lol!
