Yep lot of effort just have to wiggle and push to get the white plastic piece to release the headlight assembly. Still a pain to get out and I have brush guard need to pull down as well.

How do the H9 bulbs compare to going with a LED headlight?
Depends on the led bulb. They make led's that have twice the lumens of a h11 bulb but they require massive amounts of cooling. Also they may require projector housings just like HIDs.

T Im curious to see a side by side with the Philips 9005 and 9011. From what I see they should be identical, if the 9011 is still brighter than this is news to me, and excuse my ignorance :)

Just laced up my new work boots and getting ready to stomp all over this, when I got to the final sentence.

Bottom line, I switched the bulbs over, after slight modification to the bases and the light output is insanely better.

Not HID better but plenty for my needs

I performed this mod today. H9 for low beams, and 9005 for the fog lights. Used Philips bulbs.
If it wasn't for the fog lights, the low beams would still be disappointing. Turning off the fogs really proves how bad the regular headlights still suck, even with the H9 bulb.

Still an improvement overall, and for the low cost and 45 minutes of work it is worth it.

Thanks for the DIY on this.

One of my factory connectors burnt. Cut both out and put in the H9 connectors. No problems now.

I didn't do the high beams on mine. Just left the stock ones in. I have been running the H9 since I did this post. Still working fine and I haven't noticed any issues with the housing, but I haven't been into the back of it, so don't know what could be back there.

I have to thank you for your post. I just completed the H9 install on my 2018 3500 SRW, what a difference. Been looking at LED options and couldn't find anything I was comfortable with as far as price and affects to CAN bus. If the connectors hold up great. Just in case I purchased a set of high temp H9 connectors if needed. Thanks again!

I'm glad I was able to help. Mine are still going strong, so until I find some silverstar bulbs I'm in good shape.

Just as an update, I sold this truck a couple of months ago. The new owner is someone I work with and he mentioned that one of the bulbs went out. I am going to help him replace them, with H9's again. So they have lasted 8 1/2 years. Pretty good I would think.
