Installing OEM backup cam

I have a 2014 Ram 1500 Express. Could I install the factory back up in my truck? I know I would have to change my crappy radio as well. Beyond the new radio and back up cam what else would I need?

No, you don't need a hitch to install the backup camera. Let's see it when you are done.

Finished my install and I have to say the hardest part is running the cable under the truck. A lift would help. All pin outs on the connectors were as expected after reading this thread. Mine has the gridlines and looks crystal clear. I stripped some of the ford tape back on the two harnesses that had to be spliced into and that made those two tasks much easier. Also, if I had to do this again I’d remove the drivers seat, not much room for someone 6’1” 255lbs.

Now if I could only get the connector and pin location for Homelink can bus, pretty sure that why I keep cooking the module?

Any way you can look for that connector and pin for the canbus for the Homelink module?? Pretty sure thats whats cooking the modules..

man i wish i found this thread sooner!! i started my install just by following the instructions like a sucker.. i have a 2016 cc 2500 slt with the cargo cam standard, 7" evic and the 8.4 radio. i got tricked by that short "wear-out" harness...

i pulled the wire through under the cab, connected power to the pin 13 on the TIPM harness, pulled the wires through the grommet and now i've got a terrible no-start condition!

when i open the door, the evic does not turn on. when i put the key in, i can see the gauges themselves wake up and move to zero BUT nothing happens when i turn the key!

i guess i must have knocked out a fuse or something while i had the TIPM flipped over to splice in the power line per the directions. Does anyone here know where i can start this daig. procedure? interior lights work, hood light works, doors lock/unlock with button on the door. basically nothing else works. fob won't lock/unlock, or start truck, no evic or radio with key in. i can't imagine that i've knocked out any computers since i didn't add any pins to any harnesses..

the only other thing i can think is maybe disrupting a connection while pulling the small harness through the tiny hole in the firewall grommet. Of course i've checked these all (i think).

any suggestions??

Finished upgrading the RA1 radio on my neighbor’s 2016 Tradesman to the RA2 and the OEM backup camera kit. Use the AlfaOBD app the week prior to program the bcm with the required functions and, thankfully by following the lead of those who have gone before, everything functioned as designed.
I did notice the display is different and does not use the whole screen as in my 2017 with the same radio. Reference post 1452 and this pic. I’m thinking that since the original RA1 backup camera aspect ratio is meant to display in the rear view mirror and will display the same in the RA2. My 2017 RA2 displayed full screen while in backup camera mode. I’m wondering if a canbus reset will allow recognition of the screen capability of the RA2. Thoughts?

Recheck connectors. Make sure the BCM and any other connectors are seated correctly without broken bent pins.

Are you certain to find C5/e-45 ? There are other org/blue wires I believe

Did you check the links in post 10 of the camera thread? ..

There's a very high likelihood that you have the 3 camera wires at the radio connector (31,32,33) mixed up with pins 1,2,3 (CANbus Communication in the truck & airbag Deployment Signal). Post 26 I think covers this one.

There are little embossed numbers at the end of the row on the back to help verify.

As MPGRIMM2 stated definitely make sure the C-5 connector is seated properly , I've had this same thing happen to me while installing the BC on a buddies truck a couple years ago .
I just disconnected the C5 and reconnected it pushing in with one hand and camming over the lock handle with the other hand simultaneously .
And definitely verify the orange & blue wire is in #45 and the radio wires are in 31-33 [emoji1360]

Also... You may want to post pictures of the wires going into the back of the connectors you worked on and several of us can verify if they are in the correct location. Radio, tailgate, new connectors under the steering wheel.

I just disconnected the C5 and reconnected it pushing in with one hand and camming over the lock handle with the other hand simultaneously .

you are so right on this!
the cam locked over and it APPEARED to be seated.. when i finally just took the trim out from under the steering wheel and got in there better it became obvious that this c5 was not completely seated.
it's together now!

so, here's the fun part (now that the truck works..)

i have a 2500. at the connector at the brake padal ( i think its being called the IP conection) i have green orange/green black and bare at the 17 18 19 positions. i also have those corresponding colors in what i believe to be the correct 31,32,33 positions at the radio connector.

i had to run the cable from the tailgate to the front anyway.. i'm thinking - i can omit the factory kit radio harness part all together and i can just splice in at this point - i'd love to get some feedback on this though..

also i find it interesting that the radio harness i the factory kit bothers to plug in the rest of the wires when only the grey with tracers and the bare wire end up running to the radio..

Some trucks have varying portions of the factory wiring. 2 primary sections are usually missing (sometimes more). Chassis portion (5-6 wires) from the tailgate i550 to the c322 and/or the cab portion (3 wires) from the connector be the brake pedal to the back of the radio. (I actually make these 2 missing sections for the 13-16 trucks. Can't get the new connector pins on the 17-18's still).

Your safest bet, is to follow directions for the kit, remove the correct wires from the radio & tape them back and install the new ones (don't mix them up).

I've seen a lot of people cut/splice wires only to find out they were on the wrong ones and we're scrambling around trying to get a repair kit/terminals.

Hi guys,i have a 17 2500 crew cummins slt with 8.4 radio with no factory BU cam.i bought a complete oem camera kit from ebay and went to install starting with the camera in the tailgate.It appears that my truck may already have all the camera wiring factory installed? is this possible ?? the harness in the tailgate looks just like the harness in the kit I bought....

Check the wiring at the back of the radio. If it’s there install the camera plug it in. And see if it works. Also you might need to enable the codes with Alfa. And try it again. Start easy and go to hard. If it’s all there you might only need the camera and the codes enabled.
