Recently, I replaced my 2012 1500 Longhorn with a 2024 1500 Longhorn (both with Hemi's, Sunroof, and rear floor compartments). I didn't recognize that the 2012 had excessive interior road noise but the 2024 does. The 2024's interior road noise is noticeable. Any suggestions on how to dampen the interior road noise level?

How do the tires compare between the 2 trucks?

The difference between my summer and winter wheels is noticeable.

Summer = Michelin Defenders on 20" alloy rims
Winter = BFG All Terrain KO2s on 17" steel rims

And, welcome.gif to Ram Forum.

Tires and tire pressure (measured and adjusted cold) are key first steps.

I too run the Michelin Defender LTX M/S tires on my summer 20" rims and it's super silent.

If more sound deadening is desired, you could remove the interior and line everything with a quality sound deadening material.

Or, turn up the volume and cruise ;)

i was just going to post a complaint about that. It always sounds like the rear passenger door isn't closed completely. even with new quiet tires i still get road noise to the point where i keep checking the window to be sure it's shut.

I have no idea why that side of the truck emits that much noise. I'm thinking of ripping out the back seats and putting some sound protection behind them and even removing the plastic wheel liners and maybe putting something on the back side of them.

It's been like that since we owned the truck, i just thought in was being too critical

I have the 2024 1500 Laramie. Your description is exactly what I'm hearing also. I have the rear seats and soft panel out right now trying to figure it out. If you find an answer, please post - and I'll do the same.

My 2022 Bighorn had bad road noise. First thing I changed was four new Michelin Defenders($$). That didn't diminish the noise at all. It was my first 5th Gen. My previous Rams did not have the problem.
I now have a 5th gen 2025 Longhorn Limited with air suspension. It is one of the quietest vehicles I've ever driven, so it's not a 5th gen thing.

Im on my 3rd 1500 with the latest being a 2024 Laramie. Road noise is 90% tires in my experience. In the 24 in new smooth highway pavement at 60, all I can hear is wind noise! Like being on an airplane with the engine shut off.

Start with tires. Check exhaust. . You can add insulation to the floor and the back of the cab.

2024 1500 Laramie. Mine is the same as Markabby above. Really bad noise from rear passenger side of cab, and it does sound exactly like the passenger side rear window is cracked open. Took seats out and had a friend drive me down the road on the Interstate while I was in the back. It sounded like most of the noise is coming from the passenger side back wheel well and the subwoofer vents. I put sound-proofing foam to try and help, but there is no difference.

I'm going to try and approach it from the sound deadener.

For quiet I have a Lexus, I don't expect my pickups to be coffin quiet. The only way to make them quieter would be to do what Lexus and Rolls do, extensive sound deadening material in the Cabs, and MUCH better door seals that completely mate the door to the cab.

My Lexus, if you just lightly sit the door closed against the door latch and the seal, each door has a motor that brings it fully closed. Poor door seal/weather stripping is probably the leading cause of sound intrusion on north American vehicles. On my wife's Jeep and my pickup, dust gets past the door seals. NONE gets past on the Lexus.

If you want to verify, take some foam and wedge it between the door and cab all the way around the rear doors, especially along the rear and bottom edge. My bet is your passenger side noise disappears. Then just figure out how to make that seal a permanent thing. Then add isolation pucks under all interior mounts.

I will say my 2021 2500 Laramie, is quieter than the 1996 2500 V10 I have, both with Duratrac tires on them.

So how did you make out sealing up the door openings and eliminating the noise.
