HID radio interference cure. I just looked up the part numbers for what you will need to cure the problem completely. When I installed HIDs I could not hear anything but the closest stations. To cure the problem order two part number 17842FL ferrite chokes for each HID bulb you need to quite, from Marlin P Jones Company @ 1-800-652-6733. Place one of these chokes around the high voltage wire at 3 inches from the power pack , and place one at 3 inches from the bulb itself. In the rare event that this does not completely stop the RFI place a third choke at the 12 volt input of the power pack by looping the wire through the choke one time and snapping it shut. Do this and your problem is solved.
Can we see a pic? I tried these coils but it never worked. Maybe I put them to close.

I tried this "fix" on my 14 Sport with aftermarket HID radio interference and it didn't solve it. For some reason, in one of the old threads, there were a bunch of us that this didn't work for.

So curious how’s the light output? Light pattern? No CANBUS errors?

Nope, no errors. The HID's are from Jeremy at Retroshop and that issue has been worked out (2 resistors instead of 1 I believe). The LED fog's no errors either. Light output is excellent, but not blinding. The projection line usually sits just below the trunk lid of the car in front in traffic I haven't been flashed once. I'll be taking some pics of the light pattern soon after I install some KC's, but it's fairly spread, mostly due to the fogs.

I ended up going back to halogens after about 6 months of the set up I posted, just for perspective after I had gotten used to the HID's/LED fogs, and it was completely unacceptable. I couldn't swap back fast enough.

This is what I have now. I put the HID'S and LED fogs back on as the halogen was just too awful to keep.

Ok, Did you use the exact part number ferrite? The ones that I use simply clamp around the wires, install is a no brainer. The distance is not critical from 2 to 4 inches should be sufficient. I have used this method on various HID installs and one install that was OEM, but was giving interference on distant stations. I will try to get the photos and send them next week. I work 72 hours on weekends so getting the photo any sooner is a no go. Seriously, this is such an easy fix.

Appreciate the back handed insult. Yup, known about ferrite for about 35 yrs and I know exactly what they are used for and how to install them. Didn't work for me and my radio interface caused by my HIDs.

Here are photos showing what the part looks like and where the placement is. I have a set of lights for a friends truck, so I showed the placement with them laying on a table. The first pic is showing placement on my 2004 ram 1500. If you look close you can see two ferrites the one in the foreground is on the "bulb" side of the power supplu. The one above it , partially visible is one the power side. Any >> just ask.

Sir John,

No insult intended. There are many types of ferrite materials and some do not insure the desired outcomes.

I don't know if you tried installing with the radio on and tuned to a distant station or not. That is what I did, I disconnected one side of the lights at the transformer and I slid the ferrites along the wire till noise left and signals came in. Then I disconnected the ballast transformer on the side completed and did the other. I had to actually loop the wires through the bead and close it on one wire to get the job done. takes a little work, but worth the effort in both listening pleasure and great lighting for night time driving. i noticed that one person said that all ballast for HID's were junk. I don't believe that, as mine have been in service for quite some time and my lights come on dim with engine start up. My background is in both electronics, being a GROL with RADAR endorsements 17 years and a 38 + year Law Enforcement officer. If I can help or suggest anything you think might be of help just let me know.

Seems like an awful lot of work to make expensive bulbs work. I'll stick with the less expensive models so I don't have to change housings too.

My head Is spinning with all of the headlight discussions. I am trying to decide if it is better to put a standard H9 in my 2014 1500 or put a higher intensity H11. Is the H9 better than any H11? I would like to keep all of the lights the same temp color. Thoughts?

Just put standard replacement H9's in my low beams Friday and drove with them for the first time last night. Well worth it, I don't know how they compare to upgraded H11's, but do know they're life expectancy will be better.

Right on. So just to recap. When swapping but still keeping Halogens the switches are as follows?
Low Beam H11 to H9
High Beam 9005 to 9011
Fog Lamps 9006 to 9011

I got the conversion completed yesterday. For those of you that may be looking into this for the first time like I was...

Fog Lamp - 9006 to 9012 - Trim one external ear of bulb mounting tabs.
Low Beam - H11 to H9 - Trim of an internal tab on light bulb electrical socket
High Beam - 9005 to 9011 - Trim one external ear of bulb mounting tabs.

You can pull the headlight without pulling the grill, but it is much easier to get to everything without the grill in place.

If you plan on pulling the grill, just go spend the couple bucks at the dealer and have new grill retaining clips on hand. They are inexpensive. All four of mine broke on the way out. Took me a couple days to get them in at the dealership. Don't know why they don't stock these, I was very nice when I pulled my grill. One half of the triangle shape broke off each clip. Seems like a common item that would break.

One last thing. I don't know if all years have these, but don't forget to reach in through the access panel in the fender well and slide the headlight retaining clip to the unlocked position. Not realizing it is there and not doing so results in anther $6.00 trip to the dealership for parts they didn't have in stock. You live... you learn... you can't trust every YouTube video you watch.

I will let everyone know how I feel about the Halogen bulb swap after I do some night driving.

I know this is an old thread but do you by chance have a pic of the tab you needed to trim on the bulbs? I'm looking to my highs and lows asap.
