Just removed front sway bar, can this be welded or not?

I removed the front swaybar yesterday on my 2015 RAM 1500 Big Horn.

I saw the rust on the ends and where the bushing brackets attached. I use a 4 inch grinder with a flap disc sanding pad.

There are splits in both ends. Can this be welded or not? I took a picture of the decal and apparently that’s not showing up as a part number.

As I understand it Helwig is not making front stabilizer bars for this truck. Does anyone know the correct part number? I think the Moog sway bar bushings I bought was 36 mm to fit this bar.

I don’t know if there’s another company out there that’s making a quality front stabilizer bar. Or should I stick with Mopar?

The old end links are shot. I have a pair of the Suspension Maxx adjustable heavy duty end links. There was it going to go in when I suspension components.

The truck has 160,000 miles on it. Aside from the last one and a half years it spent most of its time in New York State.

Please let me know your thoughts?

Thanks!

Those are pretty large cracks. I would invest time and try to find someone making a heavy duty version for your model. If I could not find an after market I would put a new one on before I tried to weld something that has obviously had a lot of stress put on it and has exceeded its rated cycles.

I found this online. However, the bar looks straight and doesn’t have the exact profile of the original Mopar front swaybar. They say it fits my vehicle.

Let me know your thoughts about this?

The bar looks straight.

When I replaced the rear sway bar with the upgraded 1” Helwig package, it had the same exact profile as the original one.

I replaced mine a while back, at the time there was no aftermarket for a 4x4, but oem is very solid IMO.
Mine was rusted enough to concern me, no cracks, it ended up not being as bad as I thought but no regrets replacing it.
Several members here run without the front sway bar for various reasons, report no problems, don’t know if you want to try that.
I didn’t drive mine without it, so can’t say one way or the other, but have no reason to doubt their experience.

I believe that is for a 2wd.

I already bought new Suspension Maxx Heavy Duty adjustable front end links. They were expensive. So I plan on putting a new front stabilizer bar in. I also have a brand new set of Moog 36mm sway bar bushings.

I will be replacing a lot of front end components. New lower control arms, inner and outer tie rods. Eibach Pro Lift kit, and CORE upper control arms that I bought from Nick.

I put in all of the information on my truck. They’re saying that it’s a four-wheel-drive 2015 RAM Big Horn. I sent a message to their website. They said someone would call me back. I have to question why the bar is straight? And does not follow the original contour of the Mopar version?

I have the same end links, have seen them recommended many times, you’re going to feel like your driving on rails by the time you finish.

I’m almost positive that is not going to be for a 4x4, you’ll find it will be too long in addition to the bends not being 90% versus the 45% the 2wd is, but I have been wrong plenty of times and did mine awhile ago.

Nobody makes a swaybar for the front of a 4X4 4th Gen.That one won't fit. According to Hellwig the factory bar is hard to beat,so they decided not to make one for the 4X4's

So therefore, I have no choice but Mopar? I’m assuming that they have price fixing. That no matter where I buy this from it’s going to be the same price? Does anybody know the correct part number on this front sway bar?

I remember when I ordered the Moog bushings they were 36 mm. And made to fit that front stabilizer bar.

Thanks.

There actually is a VERY big difference by calling around. Try the Mopar parts from the sponsor list here, then the other online Mopar OEM sites. I save over 50% ordering online and still pick the part up at my local dealer so there are no shipping charges. You may also want to check Rock Auto, they sell a lot of OEM much cheaper than the dealer.

There are 2 differant sized bars if i remember right, but it's been awhile since i was looking into the front swaybar. If you don't tow or haul alot, you can run with out the front bar with no issues till you find a replacement. My old truck never had a front bar ,i took it off the truck when the truck was still basically new, the bar is still sitting in my shed,as i sold the truck and forgot the front bar wasn't on it when i sold it. Replacing the front bar isn't really something you need to be in a panic to replace,so you have lots of time to shop around. I used to play in the mountains a fair bit,and never even noticed the front bar being gone.

I believe you are correct about that. I remember when I ordered the new Moog bushings it was for a 36 mm front sway bar.

Does anyone possibly have a part number on that 36 mm sway bar?

Easiest is to phone dealer, give him your vin. Get part number and his price. Then you can price shop.

I just called the local dealer in Florida and gave him my VIN number
He quoted me $895

That’s why people call them the “stealership”!

I’ll look online. Does anyone know the part number for the heavier front sway bar? I believe it’s 1.417 inches thick. Or a hair over 36 mm.
