Nothing that some time on the good ole belt sander won't fix, though.

I used a belt sander when I did the Durango manifolds, in 2019. Still nice and quiet.

I also belt sanded them on my Ram last year. So far so good.

Since the belt sander seems to have permanently fixed the Durango's manifold issue, I have high hopes for the Ram.

I didn't even get mine perfectly flat, and I used Fel-Pro gaskets because I didn't know about the Remflex ones.

But, so far so good, about 90k miles later.

Sounds like injector tick to me, the fact it goes away after being warmed up, could broken studs that are under the heat shield not the studs that mount the heat shield, remflex are good gaskets to use after you get them flat using a belt sander or have them machined.

Friend brought his truck over and I noticed it had a noticeable tick to it.

I checked the exhaust manifolds and no broken studs. Could it be the gasket or does this more sound like the lifters? As you can hear in the video the tick does increase with rpms.

He said it has been like this for a long time and thought it was normal.

We went for a drive and after about 5 minutes of driving once the engine warmed up the ticking disappeared.

He runs Amsoil SS 5w20 with six filter.

Mine was the same. It was the exhaust manifold. When they heated up, the crack sealed itself and the tick went away. Lifter tick dont go away.1000014074.jpg

I'm not sure what your noise is, but I'm going to share my experiences with Amsoil. I recently purchased the proper weight Amsoil for my 2021 Ram and also my Charger. The Ram has a little over 16,000 miles and our Charger has around 32,000.

I've never used Amsoil before, but thought I'd try it due to comments praising its quality. I've got no dog in the fight, so I couldn't care less about one oil brand versus another. I simply wanted to see if I noticed an improvement.

Boy, I sure did notice a difference - but it definitely wasn't for the better. Amsoil in the Charger consistently causes dry startups - which never happened before. The Ram also has dry startups with the lifters ticking until the pressure rises. now realize, I've never had that issue in the Ram or Charger before using Amsoil. I typically used Pennzoil or Mobil 1 - basically whatever was least expensive. Not a single oil I used in the past caused these issues.

I will NEVER EVER use Amsoil again. Not only was it much more expensive, but it was a complete let-down. As everyone knows, dry starts are horrible for an engine and Amsoil is the cause. I will get the Amsoil out of our vehicles the very next oil change and stick to what really works and ignore the BS hype.

Like others have said, that sounds like lifters. That isn’t a manifold issue. When my lifters failed my truck sounded exactly the same. I never drove it more than a couple miles after they started making noise, but while diagnosing the problem with the engine running the noise would go away sometimes, but not always. Lifter noise and an exhaust leaks due to broken studs are two different sounds.

My next oil change has me moving to 0W30 or 5W30 with the Valvoline R&P. After looking at engine clearance specs and oil specs under operating conditions, I am convinced. I do not ever want to have to go through this aggravation.

I’m trying to figure out as well if I have just a manifold issue or if it’s lifters. I get the tisk tisk on startup and then it goes away. Today I didn’t use radio and I feel like I can hear the flutter inside the cab? Is it possible to hear a manifold leak while driving. I know with lifters they say rpm’s and noise more obvious, but this is a 15 with 54k and I feel like an exhaust leak would go up with rpm as well as the engine rpm’s are up.
