Hey Guys,

I have a 2014 Dodge Ram 1500 Outdoorsman. I'm looking to modify the headlight's electronics system and had some concerns.

After doing a bit of research, I found that some models use a PWM signal to monitor the headlight system and make adjustments for road glare, fog, snow, etc. I want to bypass this system, which I can do from an electronics standpoint but I'm concerned about two things.

#1 - Is it legal? I won't be modifying the headlight housing itself, so DOT isn't an issue here. But is there any legality problems with messing with the OPTIONAL auto headlight control that Dodge built into the truck? I don't want to fail an inspection or get a ticket. I understand if the headlights aren't lighting up or working intermittently, that would be illegal, but just wondering if the modification itself is illegal.

#2 - With my mod, I'll be tricking the system into thinking there's a regular bulb installed, but bypassing it's ability to control it. I know these CAN Bus systems can be pretty ambiguous and tied into a lot of other systems, so I'm wondering if anybody here knows if the headlight system is tied to anything else critical.

Thank you guys so much!
