2013 Dodge Ram 1500. Anyone else ever have trouble getting locked out of their truck. I've owned this truck for last 2 years and been locked out twice. First time the keys were in the ignition, truck shut off and I jumped out and shut the driver door and heard it lock. Second time was today. Unlocked the truck from my pocket. Unloaded groceries in the back seat and for some stupid reason I layed the keys on the back seat floor. Unloaded more groceries in the back of the bed, closed the tailgate, closed the back door and it locked itself. Keys still on the floor. (Forgot to grab them) No one hit the lock button. Buddy has a 2013 ram and last winter while letting his truck warm up in the parking lot at work, it locked itself running. Any ideas. Going to have to hide a door key under it somewhere.

Hopefully your truck is an Autobot. A HEMI powered Decepticon would be a *****!! :biggun:

On my 2018 there is a key in the fob that ACE hardware copied for me and I used electrical tape to wrap it to the nerf bracket so I can get into the truck where my spare fob is hid.

There was an extra door key that came with the truck but only one Fob. Going to put the extra door key somewhere under the truck tomorrow. Can't trust it. I've never owned a vehicle that would lock when the key were in the ignition either, unless you were in gear and above 10mph.

So far no issue for me with warming up the truck BUT several times with the key in my pocket it has locked, I assume the lock switch is sensitive , and maybe the vibration from closing the door might do it ?
FYI for about $3.00
you can get a emergency key made up and leave in your wallet. It only unlocks the door but that is what I wanted lol
! That's what I do for that OH **** moment if it happens :O

Don't put your spare key under the hood like my boss did. I didn't have the heart to tell him. I just chuckled a little every time I saw him get in his truck. He wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer to begin with. LOL

Funny. I do have a hide a key under the hood but only on my Wrangler.

My 2018 was doing that, but fortunately I didn't leave the fob in the truck so wasn't locked out. I decided to disable the auto lock feature (doors lock after you begin moving) and it hasn't happened since. However, I'm still careful not to leave the fob inside when closing the door. Being a contractor who goes to numerous stops per day, in my old Ford truck I'd drop the keys on the floor and shut the door unlocked. I don't do that with the Ram, just in case it decides to lock itself again.

I used to keep a spare key hidden in the gas door on a zip tie. No one ever thinks about looking there for the key to steal ya truck

I love my truck!

Thanks guys. Must be a wiring gremlin or a Decepticon. I'll zip tie a spare somewhere. Probably never do it again but just in case.

My truck came with an extra fob with removable key in it, so I just decided to tape the key with black gorilla tape to an inconspicuous spot inside the bed. Been meaning to do so, but this thread reminded me.

Are you sure? If someone were to try steal gas from you , they'd find that key right away. Gas door seems like a popular spot to look at since it's so easy and not locked. Or if someone were to mess with you and try to put something into the gas tank..

My autolock has been reliable so far on my 2013 but I got a separate aftermarket fob and phone app just in case

Can that fancy Ram communication system--e-verify or whatever it's called unlock your truck for you if you call them? In the old days the fastest way to get into your locked truck is find a 10 or 12 year old kid--they could get in faster without a key than you could if you had a key. LOL

Its just another convenient modern feature. If you don't have time or forget to lock yourself out the truck will do it for you! Like automatic lights, wipers, and memory seats. Mine locked me out twice with the fob laying in the cup holder but luckily I still had the free Uconnect and got back in. Now I roll down the window or leave the door open if I'm just jumping out for a minute. Ya, I know, put the fob in my pocket. My wifes 05 Durango did this constantly with keys in the ignition running or not. We had to call a tow truck once on vacation at our camper to open it and it ran for an hour waiting for the guy. My wife did get a laugh out of me riding my lawn mower a mile in the rain to the nearby campground to use their phone because we had no cell signal there.

Locking cap was one of the 1st mods I made on this truck.
The truck I was speaking of was one I had for tree work. Ugly F*** f250 fx4.

Managed to lock my keys in the truck a few years ago at our deer lease in DEEP East TX. Even though I no longer had a Uconnect subscription they still did the remote unlock for me.
