Looking for suggestions on a build in a 2012 extended cab. I already have a Pioneer AVH-X4800BS to install. I want to replace the door speakers and dash speakers and install 2 12's in a ported fox box under the seat but sealed is also an option. I need an idea for speakers and amps under $1000 but that is flexible within a couple hundred dollars. I listen to a wide variety of music from country to hard rock/metal and some EDM and rap/hip hop. I guess I would prefer SQL. The only experience I have with car audio is a 97 f150 that Best Buy installed an alpine head unit, and infinity kappa door speakers and 12" sub in a ****** ported box with an infinity amp for sub and some $40 "4x100" amp my buddy got at Frys for $20. Not afraid to learn about installation and tuning just don't want to get into custom fabrication of too much. In the future I'll try out tweeters in the sail or something but I want a good start. All help appreciated.

If you don't want to build a box and have a budget got with fox acoustics for your box. Depends on what you want to listen to. Lot or rock go sealed or mixed got with ported. Just got a dual 12" ported about a week ago. So far I'm pleased. Subs I went with Kicker CompR dual 2 ohm and a kicker cx-600 but I'm getting a kicker cx-1200 cause they just need more power. On my other speakers I went with the kicker cs series and got 4" in the dash, 6.5" in the doors, and 6"x9" in the rear doors. All 2-way or 3-way. Kinda wish I'd went with the cs 6.5" components in the front doors. I used my pioneer avh-4800-bs to push them for a few weeks but I wouldn't recommend it long term. It creates a 2 ohm load on the front channel and it just don't put out enough power for them all around. I ended up going with a Kicker cxa-300.4 and it has plenty of power for them. I've got more than $1000 total n the system. I've got somewhere around $1500 or better in it but that also includes a back-up camera and the series xm module plus I used all kicker wiring and fuses. I also upgrade under the hood with the big three upgrade.

I think they sounded great. Sharp tweets but not too bright. The crossovers for the components have -3 dB if too bright. The coax have a similar button on them. The coax tweets swivel. I had about 100 watts going to each crossed at about 90hz on the amp without distortion at high enough for me volumes. I know they are not "audiophile quality" but they worked great for me and I don't think you would be disappointed, especially for the price. Bass response isn't amazing, but that's what the subs are for. I did have these running in the Ram without a sub for a couple weeks and it wasn't unbearable. There are many better sets out there, but wouldn't you rather have extra cash for the subs and box? All you need with these is a pair of mounting adapters and to run wires.

Your previous 6x9 may have been a different model with different materials for the tweet. I had a set of polk mm 6.5 components at twice the cost of the infinity. The polk tweet was stupid harsh compared to the infinity.

Feel free to PM me if you want to talk more about it.

After reading a good bit I don't think I want to go with the fox box. Didn't realize it was just plastic, figured it was fiberglass. Now I'm thinking about taking out the middle part of the bench seat and just building a box there. Anybody have any recommendations for that?

Asking people what kind of speakers to buy is like asking a room what kind of car to buy.

everybody hears different things. some may like higher end some may be ok with lower end. trucks are such small areas that what i would always recommend is a 4 channel amp. a good set of components and a sub.

2 channels go to the components and 2 get bridged to a sub. I also listen to all types like you listed so i would recommend a sealed box built to the airspace needed for the sub you buy. sealed wont be as loud for the edm or rap type music, but it will be tighter sound for country/rock.

The Fox Box is a good option. The MECA sound quality champion BIG RED uses one in his Dodge Ram. For the record, he also used a 10" sub in his passenger footwell as well. Only the tubs are plastic. A center console box is a great option as well.

I think its a great idea, Mountainman. Would be cheaper than almost any quality pre-made box leaving you more money to spend on a better or 2nd sub. Sub brand...that's up to debate and personal preference of course. I would look into sundown audio to start. I am very pleased with my SA-10 ported. Certainly not setting records or rattling the neighbors windows, but loud and deep enough for my taste.

Here's a link to start on SoundSolutionsAudio's Online car audio store! Best prices, products and customer service. Fast shipping to US, Canada and More!!

Last time I did this sundown was fairly new but everything I read was great. I've always wanted to try them out. Now I just need to figure out where to fit 2 SA-12s. I've heard they'll work in a ported fox box not sure though since it's not quite enough space according to the recommendations. May just go with the fox box till I can build something myself.

I have a fox box as well with 2 10" Image Dynamics subs. I've been really pleased with the sound from it. Best tonality I've ever had from my low end which I won't attribute 100% to the box but it certainly didn't hurt the setup.

Two questions for everybody.

1: what is the best way to route a backup camera wire?

2: if I get the foxbox for 2 12's would it work with one until I get the money for a second? Also would sundown SA-12s work in it?

Not sure on either question but as long as the Fox has separate chambers you can run one in there. Be sure to keep your final impedance in mind when buying two dual voice coil subs.

Thanks I'll make sure to check that when the time comes.

Btw finally got the speakers I got from you hooked up to an amp. They sound great. Just missing out on that sub bass.

On trucks I typically route the back up camera along the parking brake line. Before getting under the truck I would cover it up in wire loom and then once under, zip tie it up all the way. Usually around the driver seat area there is a factory grommet you can use as your entry point.
