Looks like a neat custom RAM, but I'm not sure I would own one over a Rebel or HD.

Even if the truck is included, that's guite the mark up for some wheels, tires, lift, light bar bumpers and decals.

I'm really not trying to argue, I understand your opinion. But, there's more to it than that.

2018 MINOTAUR CONVERSION

(Starting at $59,995)

  • NEW 2018 RAM 1500 Sport 4x4
  • Crew-cab, Short Bed
  • Granite Metallic Gray
  • Leather Interior
  • KORE Tactical Suspension with 14” of Suspension Travel
  • 3” FOX Internal Bypass Shocks
  • Side-exit Performance Exhaust System
  • Wide Body High-Impact Fenders (Front & Rear)
  • Low-Profile Front Fascia
  • LED Fog Lamps
  • Blackout Headlamps
  • Aluminum Skid Plate
  • Race Red Tow Hooks
  • 35” All-Terrain Tires
  • 18” Painted/Machined Wheels
  • Minotaur Sport Bar

That is very much a Raptor competitor at a Raptor price point. No doubt a Hellcat would put it over the top though. If I were in the market for a brand new truck and had 60k to spend, I would consider this truck as an option. Again, I'm not trying to argue - just saying there is a reasonable market for this.

*For clarity, that amount was for the cost of the CONVERSION ONLY. You still had to supply the truck. That said, you beat me to the punch.

The skillset Prefix possesses and what and how they put a Minotaur together would be very much a similar expense to what they charge if you were to go through a fab/offroad shop and then a high end body shop. Basically, Prefix does all Viper work (as well as some other very high-end work) and the level and quality of work they put into the Minotaur shines through. Any doubters should try to see one in person. We're talking beautifully modded and executed frame mount points, panel fitment with the fiberglass, better than OEM paint quality if you go the full pig, and so much more.

Could a layman build something "similar"? (No, let's just be honest now, OK?)

I'll humor that idea. Similar, well, honestly NO. Not in that production timeframe and to that level of quality, and certainly for not even remotely for less if you compare apples to apples. So yeah, you can build something up for general play but there's gonna be sacrifices and you'd have to have the skillset or access to those skillsets and you won't save a ton. Then even with that it's only gonna be "similar", never "EXACT" to what Prefix does. Example: Have fun trying to get most common fiberglass fenders to fit with the quality they do without spending a huge chunk of your funds. They even do custom fender liners along with properly and safely relocating underhood items to just work right.

So,

It's not just about looks. The things handle.

No, even the Rebel doesn't compare, and honestly, neither does a top line Raptor. I've ridden in and driven both, and not in some parking lot.

Wait, that's markup? You gotta pay to play baby and quality isn't a cost, it's an investment. Labor and the relavant skillset don't come cheap.

Hellcat, sure, or you can always get things tuned, add horsepower other ways, etc-etc. and it'll carry a factory backed warranty.

Anyone doubting this should take a close look at a true Minotaur or go visit the facility to see what I already have had the privilege of doing.

Now if I could convince the wife to let us cash out on this property, retire early and let me send mine off for the buildup.

Oh, wait, you can't. Prefix ceased production. Yup, with the shut down of the Vipers came the end of this. "Rumor" is they're gearing up for a possible TRX release, because, well, that red prototype TRX everyone talked about, yeah, Prefix did that. The remainder of said "Rumor" is that there's something up as far as dealer options for upspec to the Rebels on par to make said TRX a reality.

Good write up, I don't have any 1st hand knowledge but I agree with the things you said. That's awesome that you got to ride/drive one. Are you one of the passengers in the promo video? haha.

Couple of things there -

The way it is listed on the website led me to believe that a "NEW 2018 RAM 1500 Sport 4x4 Crew-cab, Short Bed" was included in the base 60k price - which made that seem like a great deal (and direct competition to the Raptor). If the truck wasn't included, the whole package (truck + conversion) would be over 100k - that's a rare price point/market to fill and I can't imagine many people with 100k to spend would see the value in this truck, especially coming with a stock 5.7L HEMI.

So for the Minotaur, Prefix used the KORE tactical suspension (which KORE no longer sells/lists on their website). That's the same suspension setup that was on the RamRunner, correct? I was unaware that Prefix did the TRX concept, but do believe the suspension on the concept was from Dirt King (which is for sale on their website). I've wondered what happened to KORE and why the switch to DK - do you have insight on that?

I like the long travel suspension and wide body kit as well as that low profile bumper, but that's a lot of mark up.

Not in any of the videos. I'm a former dealership group employee who has a great rapport w some key factory and partner connections. I chose to take advantage of something different than Bondurant since I had done that already.

Prefix had a lot of inout w the TRX.

Long story. Shame because it's hard to say who was totally in the wrong there but I'm sure Kent was riled up more than once.

Look on Race-Dezert from like 2015/2016, the threads should still be there.
Edit: Found it https://www.race-dezert.com/forum/t...give-raptor-a-run-for-its-money.126663/page-2

As far as the whole Dirt King thing I don't know. Everyone I know went in a different direction, Thuren, etc. I'd like to see a Dirt King kit up close and ride in a truck spec'd w it. Those uniballs though, hello monthly maintenance if you daily it. Then again, DUAL ADJUSTABLE Upper A-Arm connections. :D WINNING

I've been in a Minotaur and like O.R.T said they perform, and perform very well. Especially with the supercharged 392 swap.

To each his own. Looks nice but I paid less than the starting price for my Laramie 2500. Maybe I'm getting old or older. And don't need to impress anyone except myself.

Of the yellow Minotaur in Phoenix. Just seen em driving south on the 143!!! Just wanted to let you know of the envy I have.

This is hilarious I'm just seeing this now, 2 years later. That was definitely me! I'm glad you like the truck!
