I am looking for someone in the north Alabama area, with a tuner that can deactivate my MDS (eco mode). If it's even possible, I'm not a mechanic. If it is, what would you charge me. Thanks in advance.

Start the truck put it in drive press "Gear-" on your steering wheel once, then press "Gear+" to your Max gear, in my case I have the 8 speed trans so I go to 8. The gear will be shown on your cluster next to the "D" for drive. You have to do it Everytime your drive the truck but it's free, been doing it for years.

That's what I've been doing, but wanted to see if I could just get it deactivated, so I don't have to do that every time. Thanks for the reply.

Since a programmer is VIN locked to the vehicle it is loaded on, you can't tune two trucks with the same unit. For the programmer owner to turn off your MDS, he'd have to return his truck to stock. Then for him to be able to tune his truck again, he'd have to return your truck to stock.

I don't think a dealer will turn it off for you but it's worth a call to see.

You can get a programmer for your truck and, with a custom tune, turn off MDS permanently. There are a lot of other benefits to having one besides just turning off MDS.

Yes almost all the tuners can remove the MDS from activating permanently.

What are recommendations for a tuner, and about what do they cost?

If all you're looking to do is deactivate MDS then a diablo intune is the way to go. If it's unmarried you can get a used one for pretty cheap...

What are some of the other things I can do with a tuner. I didn't know they had them for gas burners.

Is your truck a 2011 that is in your profile? If so any tuner would work, if you want custom tunes later you would need one that supports it. All tuners have performance tunes in them, can change tire size, gears, turn off mds, etc. More expensive ones can log, have screen to see various gauges, do performance test etc. If you don't plan on getting custom tune, I would prob go cheap or buy used one on here.

Thanks for the info, I'll probably just go the cheaper route. I really just want to deactivate the MDS, not really worried about performance tuning. I just drive back and forth to work . If you know anyone who has a used on, that isn't married to a vehicle already. I would be very interested. Thanks again, everyone on here has been great. No one talked down to me because I didn't have a clue.

what is the advantage to deactivating the MDS?
Pretty much just that you're engine is running on all 8 cylinders all the time, if all you're doing is deactivating it with no other mods there's really not much point. Most that deactivate it are doing it for performance along with other mods.

The possibilities on tuning are pretty much limitless all depending on how much time and money you want to invest. It's not like the old days where you can turn a screwdriver and tweek this or that, it's all electronic now. There's all kinds of tuners on the market from preloaded tunes to custom loads specifically for you.

You can also select gear 5 after you start the engine hich disables the MDS. Doesn't cost anything.

You can also get an Edge Pulsar, plug and play and gain 10-15hp and can tune on the fly through your cruise control buttons on your steering wheel. $500

I have a new tune ready to be loaded onto the truck. Sensitive throttle, 91 oct, and no mds. Ought to be fun.
