MDS....Did you turn it off or leave it on?

So I hear a bunch of talk about MDS causing problems. On those who have this, which did you do and why?
Have it on nearly all the time. There are no problems with it. Those who usually have problems keep trying to 'play' with it instead of just letting it work like it is supposed to.

It's off in my tune. I have an aftermarket muffler that's a little on the loud side so having a Hemi powered truck that sounds like damn Honda Civic on steroids from the back when the conditons are met to run 4 cyl wasn't something i wanted to go through for very long :)
If you're runinng the stock exhaust you'll hardly notice the system going on/off
in MDS it does NOT sound like a Honda Civic !! In fact if you have a proper exhaust set up you'll barely tell the difference when it is on.

I regularly go into manual mode and turn off the mds. I'm all stock but dont like the constant flip flopping back and forth between 4 and 8 cylinders. Can't be good for engine longevity, but who knows? I'm sure it's been thoroughly tested but I still dont like it and it does not improve mileage much if at all.

An attempt to appease the politicians is what it is to me anyway (bs). Just my .02
Constant?? Must live on hills or something. Down here rarely changes in or out of MDS, except when you want it to.

I have no idea exactly how many Hemi’s have been sold that use MDS. Im gonna day that number is in the millions maybe ? The Chrysler 300, charger, challenger, Ram 1500 and I think a couple in the Jeep line up.

I have yet to hear anyone actually say the MDS caused issues on their motors. If there was an issue based on this system it would have been known for sure IMO. Between ALL the vehicles running Hemi’s with MDS surely there would have been a mass recall or there would be a sticky on here.

As weird as it sounds to have this technology it’s seems to me (not a mechanic) that this tech has proven its self. If this tech was still in its infancy I’d probably have a different opinion, however, I think we can safely assume the technology has been proven. I can’t say how many miles have been on Hemi motors with MDS since 2004 but I’m going to safely assume it’s A LOT.

I don’t mind it to be honest and I took off My flowmaster before messing with MDS. The two together don’t go well but I’d rather have MDS than a flowmaster. It wasn’t the only reason for swapping it but was definitely a major contributing factor.

I’m no snowflake but if something can make my motor run more fuel efficient I’m ok with that.

Have both MDS (still on) and a Flowmaster 40, no problem with sounds at any speed or use.

What is this custom tune you guys speak of and how do I go about doing this? Stock at the moment but thinking of a progressive exhaust.

I don't want to sound stupid (the only stupid question is the one not asked) What does the MDS stand for and what does it do?

Multiple-displacement system. It essentially turns off 4 of the cylinders in the hemi

Ca woke up to $4.10 a gallon gas and $4.15 diesel. State sales tax went up another 7.5 cents from the November increase of 6.5 cents. The 7-1-2019 gas tax increase "will all go" to fund free health care for all illegal aliens. Governor Nonsense is thrilled. Federal, State and local tax is now just under $1.00 per gallon in ********* Ca. Hawaii and Colorado think this is wonderful.
Attached some pics I think you will enjoy. Fitz

Good old Gov. Moonbeam and Gov. Nonsense (great name for moonbeams replacement) strike again what about the Background check to buy ammo?

Welcome to What it’s like in Canada.

For better or worse it’s my reality. It’s why I laugh a little when I see people say they don’t care about mileage etc.

In a sense they’re right. Bought a truck what did you expect? It’s like moving to the tropics and complaining about the heat I suppose. However, when gas goes from $90 a fill up to $140 a fill up it’s not so easy to just brush it off and say “truck yeah!” While chugging a Budweiser. Mmmm... Budweiser.

I don’t mind my mileage. It’s the People’s republic of Canada that takes money outta my pocket and gives it to whatever ( mostly liberal scams I presume). The blatant long weekend price gouge in summer is also a slap in the D&$@ when you wanna take the family somewhere.

We won’t have to worry about MDS tech for much longer anyways. The V8’s will be a thing of the past and displayed in the museums. I predict very small displacement motors with multiple variations of forced air induction like what ford is doing. Might see a VERY restrictive small diesel technology become more common place as well.

Maybe I should not complain about only having a 32 gal. fuel tank. It already costa about $115.00 to fill it up at any place except COSTCO. :emotions122:
But go to COSTCO and you take a chance of getting shot :(

Yep another direct attack on the 2nd amendment. I am sure that the criminals and felons will all follow this new regulation and wait 10 days for the background check. I and the guys I shoot with stocked up earlier this year. Have enough for our range shooting activity and special ammo for,,,when it may be needed.

I turned MDS off on my 07' Quad Cab 1500, 2wd, 5.7L Hemi 3 years ago thru my SuperChips CORTEX Tuner. I didn't like the drone from my exhaust when MDS was active. I feel the power is better without MDS, and fuel mileage is about the same. When she gets a new cam and lifter, I will delete the MDS completely.

I need to do that. So in turning it off there once is enough and it's permanent right?

I have a 2008 1500 Mega Cab that does not have MDS on it. Is this something that can be added with a tuner or am I just stuck with the mileage I'm getting.

I don’t think it’s something you can add after the fact.... I’m sure someone will chime in with more knowledge of the ECU and tuning aspect of things.

My 2008 quad cab had terrible mileage too. I think it has to do with the transmissions used at the time

Same here quiet when stock but with having true duels flomaster 2 super 40 mufflers no resonators with x pipe I can hear certainly hear it but you still have to listen for it.a0834d7ec988eb0033488ea1ac34ffb9.jpg

I had the FM 40 series with resonators and I could easily tell when MDS was active. It would vibrate the trucks and feel sluggish. Accompanied by borderline diesel sound coming out the exhaust.
