My father-in-law has an '18... with the 8-speed transmission you really can't tell a difference between MDS and no MDS. It's a big contrast from my 6-speed unit.
I have a rcsb 2016 Ram Sport and I can tell when it engages.
It's horrible. It's even worse with an aftermarket exhaust like the one I have. Horrible.

I too shut it down every time I jump in the truck, I also have a magnaflow with 5 inch tips, in the city it boggs the truck down, on the highway it usualy kicks in around 55mph, I also use it to downshift a lot it sounds frikin
great and all the other ram owners that might in my vicinity look at me like YOU have a standerd?. A lot of RAM owners that I know don't even know what those buttons do.

Awesome brother! I have the Flowmaster Outlaw replacement muffler on my Hemi truck and I love when my truck downshifts with the ***** MDS turned off. Sounds awesome.
Every once in a while, I get the gargle and pops. Majestic. lol

Thanks fitz-thats my point -if I take a 500k trip, then i want all 8 working and wearing evenly-but it wont as the mds will kick in when I am cruising and for the most part I will be running on 4 and those 4 will be working overtime-I dont like that.
Actually as much as I dont care for mds the other 4 cylinders wont be working overtime it doesn't work that way. As soon as the truck senses an incline or you touch the gas it activates the other 4 cylinders so it never works hard. When power is sensed it activates Or deactivates depending how you look at it.
The reason I dont like it is wearing of the motor for the sake of a little gas.

I’m getting used to the gear down then up seven times routine. Sometimes I forget until I hit fourth gear but it still works doing it then. So far the only thing that’s hurt my mileage is the trailer pulling in tow haul mode.

I might be more in favor of the mds if it alternated the piston shutdown instead of always shutting down the same 4cylinders-that would make sense to me- I still cant comprehend how this can be a good thing for a Hemi 8--surely they can set it to have 4 shut down in a random order-that way all pistons ,plugs, lifters etc have a chance to wear evenly. I am not an auto mechanic-and I have major respect for anyone who is with the ever evolving autotronics. Are there any auto techs who want to give opinions on MDS ?

what i am definitely convinced of is that my mileage has not suffered at all turning it off. becoming habit now.

I’m giving it a shot too. Sometimes I forget. Also, I wonder if it works in reverse. I’ll just start driving everywhere in reverse

Tiped on ifone using Tapatalk and auto correct. Can’t you tell?

Mine will turn it off at virtually any speed up to 55. I am finding out you do not have to hit the plus 8 times either. I wait after the minus until I am in 6th gear and hit the + twice. I have a slightly used Pulsar I just bought but not sure I am going to keep it just for turning off the MDS. Decisions....

Main reason I went with the pulsar .
Dont have to unlock the pcm .

A quick note - the 2015 models are the first year with the locked PCMs. If you have a 2014 or earlier, you can just buy a hand held tuner and turn off the MDS that way.

I turn it off every time I get in the truck and I notice it right away if I forget to. I don't notice it just because of the exhaust note, it just makes my truck feel really sluggish.

Wish it didn't have it at all.

Everyone is talking about turning the MDS off, but how do you do it? I have an 07.

Wow, the 2007's had MDS as well?
I'm glad my 3rd gen didn't have it. What a horrid idea to put on a vehicle.

The one question that has yet to be answered. (At least I have not been able to find the answer in any of our threads on this subject) When towing with the 2018 2500 6.4 6 spd.
1. When you set the tow button,,,is MDS turned off?
2. If you push the tow button on "and" set the gear selector to 6,,,,any issue or effect?
I know we have solid knowledgeable techs as members. Would love a jump in on this one. Fitz
