I have a 2016 Ram 1500, I'm coming to the end of my lease in July and I'd like to keep the truck except since I took delivery of the truck the MDS system has had a very rough transition from 4 to 8 cylinders. Sounds like the engine is misfiring, very annoying. I've had the truck to the dealer twice and as long as it doesn't set off a check engine light they say it's normal. I don't know whether to bring it to a mechanic out side the dealer or have it tuned out some how, any suggestions. I'd like to keep the truck but afraid of long term affects. For now I keep bypassing the MDS on the steering wheel, but it seems silly to keep doing this on a fairly new truck.

The transition should be flawless. The only thing you should notice “ and this is only if you have exhaust” is you can hear the change in the exhaust note. On factory exhaust it is tuff to notice on a 1500. I believe some had had similar issues and it was the motor mounts either loose or defective and carrying the vibration back, I can’t be to sure.

I wouldn't keep a truck with know problem; and the dealership has shown you the level of service you'll get over the life of the vehicle.

If the dealer can't fix by lease end, I suggest you not buy it..

Thinking about installing an Edge Pulsar programmer, you can shut off the MDS which seems to be my whole problem, truck runs fine when deactivated. I'm hearing if you need warranty work done at the dealer it just disconnects.

The Pulsar did not disable the MDS when I installed it on my 2017 Ram PW but yes when I take it in I remove it and I have never had trouble.

My truck does have a rough transition between modes as well. I've noticed it performs much better when the oil temp is higher.
