I had to replace the fuel pressure sensor on my truck last week, which required taking my K&N CAI off to get the engine cover off.

When reassembling i noticed a small inlet that had nothing connected to it, there was nothing disconnected, and I still get an intake air temp reading through my maestro and radio.

Is this supposed to be plugged? Left open? Or is there supposed to be a sensor installed there

do you have a photo?
There should be the air sensor just above the throttle body and a tube connected towards the filter end that plugs into the intake.

I'll take one in a few when I change the filter itself. I have the tube that connects to the bottom, but on the back side of the pipe there's an open / unplugged hole. Will send photos in a bit.

That's in the wrong spot for the IAT sensor.
My guess is that's where the hose back to the purge valve should go.

Not that it matters but I've driven 20k miles without it... it wasn't there when I bought the truck. I'm sure of it.

Ok, better photo shows the hose inlet.
Odd place for the IAT, should always be just above the TB for accuracy.
Yes, it's missing & probably still attached to the plug & laying loose nearby. It should be installed IMO.

I'll take another look around but I'm pretty sure nothing has ever been there

Maybe it was to far away for IAT sensor wiring to reach & they removed it.

I mean i get intake temperature readings still, from my maestro. Infact I know its reading because I changed my filter and with the new one I dropped 20 degrees. With that said, should I plug that hole?

If you are concerned about air temps I would ditch that K&N........pulls air from engine bay instead of cool air from fender well or in front of radiator.
Thinking other factors like cooler engine bay vrs dirty filter dropped your temp if that Maestro is indeed giving you true readings.

My IAT sensor is 4 inch from TB on AFE filter intake......stock was about the same location.......you should be able to trace cable

Well I found it, is this how it should be installed??

Edit- Looking at photos... i should be using a lot more pressure to push it in, was trying not to break it... i'll try to get it in all the way

To bad that hole was open to atmosphere, that means you got a lot of unfiltered air into your engine. Nothing you can do about it now... Your engine may run a little better now that it is getting more accurate intake temps.

I wonder how it got undone, and who did it. My truck has only been touched by me, and the dealer. So makes me wonder. Its not like it can just come undone you know?

Make sure air flows through the open hoop on the tip when installing in the tube.

Mine came out on my k&n intake a little bit I installed. Couldnt get it all the way in and didnt want to break. A little petroleum jelly and it slid in easy. No issues since. Worst part was buying a single jar of vaseline at publix

Not to hijack the thread but this is the most recent with anything to do with the IAT.
I had my intake off over the weekend. When I checked the IAT the little blue resister/thermister inside the loop was bent to the side and touching the plastic. When I tried to move it back I discovered the wire was not anchored in the center, it could flop around inside the airway loop. Can anyone verify if theirs is the same way? I've not seen this in the past, that part of the sensor is rigid on my other vehicles.

Thank you
