hey fella's

I currently have a K&N Drop In Filter in my truck right now. I have experienced Intake's on my 03' Explorer 4.6L, and 08' Silverado 5.3L in the past. In my personal experiences they do have small gain potentials, but i honestly dont feel like the money spent is worth the power gained. We all mainly buy the intake for the awesome sound the provide.

in an attempt to save myself a few hundred bucks, to gain the " Intake Sound " i want. I was curious if anyone has opened up their OEM Air box at all ????. I did this mod on my explorer before I bought the intake, and it def achieved what i was looking for lol.

The big thing is to remove and throw away the intake mufflers. You do that, and you should hear a bit more roar from under the hood. I'm not sure where your mufflers are, but many are before the air filter and after the air filter or right before the TB. You don't really want to drill holes into your air box. You want to get the coolest air possible, so keeping the airbox intact is a benefit.

CAI are fine as long as you tune for them. K&N and the like really benefit from the longevity of the filter, more than anything else.

The only problem is that the airbox is only half the problem with the factory intake. The corrugated tube that connects the throttle body to the airbox is restrictive. Replacing this section with a smooth 3.5"-4" tube will free up some extra power.

are there any options out there besides Legmaker ??? last price i saw was 225$ for a pipe. which just seems way to expensive. for that amount i should just buy an intake.

or anyone know where i can buy long sections of silicone hose to connect the box to the tb ?
