So yesterday I was driving down 2nd avenue up by 123 street in New York City, and this idiot changes into my lane with no signal/quite abruptly. Unfortunately for both of us, my grill was almost even with the back of the front door of his car. I hit my brakes, come to a stop. So, does he. We both get out of our cars, and he starts shouting at me about how I hit him blah blah blah.

I look at him hoping initially that he was going to take credit for being a *******, but obviously to no avail. Instead of pressing what I see as a simple issue, I say that I am just not going to talk to him, until the cops show up. 40 minutes later of honking horns because of backed up traffic trying to get around his car which he wouldn't pull in in front of me the traffic cops show up.

Much to my amusement the first thing they say over the bull horn is, "HEY, PULL YOUR CAR IN, AND OPEN UP THAT LANE, YOU ARE BLOCKING TRAFFIC." I immediately think, oh good they are mad at him already this looks good for me. They come talk to us, and I tell my side of the story. While I am talking the guy walks over, and starts to interrupt. The cop takes one look at him, and goes, "Go stand by your car, he doesn't have to talk to you."

Long story short the cops say he was at fault, and an idiot. Pictures follow lol. The piece in the photos was stuck in the back part of my bumper, you can see it peeking out in the second photo lol. The cops took one look at it, pulled it out, put it back in, and laughed!!!

As you can see, I sustained significant damage...

Glad you and your rig are okay. You did the right thing by ignoring the driver. It probably burned his ass even more because you didn't argue!!

The only thing I wish were different is I wish the camera in that corner of the bumper had recording capability as it would have made for a pretty sweet video to watch lol.

Too many fools out there, I am going to get these to drill into my bumper. The bar gives a little to protect itself, covered in hard rubber. Did the cop put idiot in any report? That would be priceless.

Those would definitely help if someone backed into you, but in my case he came straight into the side of my truck, and they wouldn't have done anything. That is something you see in NY all the time that always makes me laugh are the little "bull bars" that people put on their rigs. What a joke, as most of the time they are just bent into the bumper lol.

I think I can pick up the report, either today, or tomorrow, and will scan up a copy if there is anything particularly entertaining in it.

Karma's a ***** (for him!); glad it seems you're on the good side of the law and hope it stays that way. Is there a 1-year statute of limitations for soft tissue liability there? A girl in my team got sued 364 days after an accident by the person who caused it claiming neck injuries; good grief.

I am not sure, but I am definitely going to cough up the $10 for the police report, just so I can have a copy for my records.

It would be a joke for them to even try though I was going about 10-15 MPH, and he was going 15-20 MPH when he side-swiped me.
