Moog Problem Causers Strike Again

Otw to airport at 5 AM this morning, struck a pothole and this happened. It's a good thing I was going slow or who knows what could've happened. Shockingly no other damage aside from needing a new CV clamp. Brand new tires so glad that wasn't a casualty. I've seen this happen in the past with the BDS arms but was hoping wouldn't be the case with these

Lol yeah luckily wasn't too far from home so called a buddy to run back for the tools and got another arm on before the rain and morning traffic. Hopefully the city will cover the alignment cost but won't hold my breath

What lift do you have on your truck and what control arms?

Installed last summer, less than 3k miles on them I would say. Certainly not how I figured I'd start the day but it could've been a lot worse.

I thought this issue was figured out years ago.

I had ordered a couple spare Moog ball joints to have on hand and noticed they're visually different than the ones that were installed in the arms, with the same part number. So I don't know if the newer ones are better but I'm definitely hesitant to trust anything Moog again.

I have Zone 4" lift with Core arms, so I'm hoping to get a replacement set with the Apex ball joints

I was dropping someone off thankfully, but they had to get a taxi.

Dont know about current quality but a few years ago I used Moog HD upper & lower ball joints in my 06 2500 4x4 CTD and I never had problems in the 3 years of driving before I sold it...

I thought I missed the Moog balljoint issue, had Zone uppers on my 2016 for many years and just ordered a new set of Zones for my new truck.

Hope you made out well, I'd assume you would need some new brake lines at least.

Maybe I was just that lucky one, hopefully you won't have any issues with your new Zones.

I left for work yesterday for a couple of weeks so I didn't get a chance to check out much yet. They are newer stainless lines and didn't look to be damaged but I'm going to go over the truck once I'm back home.

I have read on several forums of ball joint tie rod issues with several manufacturers suppliers with Moog being in the mix. It's either the joint breaking or the boots rotting away in 2-3 years.
The one company that seems to have a stellar rep so far is Pro Forged LINKY They also have an upgraded performance line with a million mile warranty.
I'd suggest replacing the others as well as making sure there was no subsequent damage. If I'm understanding correctly these came pre-installed on aftermarket control arms? IF so I might also contact the company and request reimbursement

Moog has become a disappointment the last few years. If not the piece itself failing the rubber parts are junk. I've had failures on both (old Dodge Police car). The rubber grease boots disintegrated and fell off within months. Later the upper bj failed. I've heard good about Mivotech stuff but no experience yet.

Amazes me that some companies seem to have forgotten how to make rubber that lasts yet the OEM's don't seem to have the problem on new vehicles.
Maybe something to do with moving manufacturing ?? NAHH can't be that, Right ?

Yep. Really is a shame that they moved production over seas and quality went down. Gone are the days in which you could buy certain brands with 100% confidence. Moog was one of those.

And that's correct, the joints came pre-installed. I've contacted the company and they said they want to provide new arms with supposedly better joints so we'll see. Those joints are on backorder at the moment though of course

A lot of these parts suppliers are sourcing their parts from Asia and Moog could be one of them. It's all about profit. Moog used to be the one to go to for quality and fitment but they were bought out by one of the conglomerates and the rest is history.
