I was washing the truck off today and noticed the side steps were peeling (chrome) off in several places. I bought the truck July 2011 and they were on it then. I have a call in to the dealership, but I figured someone here would know. Is it covered or not? Truck only has 17xxx miles on it, and truthfully, I'm a little disappointed, especially since they were like a 5 or 600 dollar option.

That sucks to hear! Let us know what the dealership says.

It should be covered under warranty.

Mine did that on my 2010 and when i complained, service tech said they are not covered as they were a dealer add on.

Unless they came mounted from factory (check build sheet) they are not covered.

Arrrggg!!

I would think mopar would cover it if the factory warranty doesn't and if they aren't factory installed, as long as you have some sort of proof of purchase.

You may be hosed:

Except as noted below, over-the-counter or wholesale Mopar parts are warranted against defects
in workmanship or materials for 12 months/unlimited miles for parts exchange only. Mopar parts
installed by an authorized Chrysler Group LLC dealership or studio are warranted for 12
months/12,000 miles for both parts and labor, or for 12 months/unlimited miles for parts exchange
only, whichever is more favorable to the customer.

If they are on your window sticker, they may still be covered.

Well, I called my salesman today to check on it, and he told me to email "dodge" and send them pics. Said they would likely just send me a new set of steps. I thought that was kind of strange, but contacted Ram via email and then spoke to a customer service guy on the phone. Everyone was real nice, but just as confused as I was about why the salesman would have me contact corporate instead of the service department. Either way, they got the service department of my dealership on the line and the service manager wants me to bring the truck by so they can take a look at it. Everyone seems very helpful, and so far, no one has said "No". I'm hoping the dealership helps me out here.

Sooooo.... interesting development at the dealership. I get there yesterday, and when I pull up, one of the service guys meets me out there. I tell him who I talked to originally and of course he wasn't there. Anyhow, we take a look at the steps and the guy tells me Mopar accessories have a 12 month warranty, and I am at about 18 months. I knew this was a possibility, but now I was a little pissed they had me drive over an hour to the dealership when they could have just said no on the phone. The guy was very polite and said he just couldn't understand why someone would have told me to come down. He said to go talk to my salesman to see if there was another truck on the lot we could switch the steps out with, so I did.
When I tell my salesman that, he says "We're going to get this taken care of" and he goes to talk with a manager. Meanwhile, another service tech asks me to come outside, and she asks me if I live on a dirt road. When I tell her yes, she tells me that's why the steps are peeling, something about the clay in the road, and that there's nothing they can / will do. As she was telling me this, a manager walks up and tells her that they're waiting to hear back from the service manager, and that they're going to take care of me, and that he wanted to know why they had no idea how to handle the situation. He then told them to have someone follow me to the gas station to fill my truck up for having wasted my time.
When we got back, the service guy gave me his card, got my info and told me they would call me Monday after the morning rush, and that they had a set of steps in stock.
So, I'd say it's looking pretty good so far. I guess I'll know for sure tomorrow!

ETA Seems like the guy I spoke with first was a service writer, not the manager.

Just spoke with the service department, and they are going to replace them for me. Just making sure they get the right ones ordered and when they get in, they said they'll call me. I don't have them on the truck yet, but at least this is heading in the right direction! Customer service means a lot to me, and if things go how the dealership is telling me they'll go, I'll be shopping there for my wife's next car.

Good thing to know!! My dealer actually had to go to Tennessee to get my truck when I bought it. They called Tennessee today, and they said they did not install the steps, but my build sheet doesn't list them either, so I don't know who actually put them on, not that it really matters. They just called again, they have them in stock, going tomorrow to get them put on.:pepper:

As far as 3/36, is there anywhere I can find that in writing?

Glad to hear they're taking car of you.
Double sucks for those of us who weren't specific enough in our deal and got aftermarket B.S. steps with no warranty.

Good deal and I like that you said that about the dealer. Most of the time all you hear are the bad things that happen. I guess next time this happens though you'll be on your own, or did they give you a warranty on the new steps?
