Sooooo.... interesting development at the dealership. I get there yesterday, and when I pull up, one of the service guys meets me out there. I tell him who I talked to originally and of course he wasn't there. Anyhow, we take a look at the steps and the guy tells me Mopar accessories have a 12 month warranty, and I am at about 18 months. I knew this was a possibility, but now I was a little pissed they had me drive over an hour to the dealership when they could have just said no on the phone. The guy was very polite and said he just couldn't understand why someone would have told me to come down. He said to go talk to my salesman to see if there was another truck on the lot we could switch the steps out with, so I did.
When I tell my salesman that, he says "We're going to get this taken care of" and he goes to talk with a manager. Meanwhile, another service tech asks me to come outside, and she asks me if I live on a dirt road. When I tell her yes, she tells me that's why the steps are peeling, something about the clay in the road, and that there's nothing they can / will do. As she was telling me this, a manager walks up and tells her that they're waiting to hear back from the service manager, and that they're going to take care of me, and that he wanted to know why they had no idea how to handle the situation. He then told them to have someone follow me to the gas station to fill my truck up for having wasted my time.
When we got back, the service guy gave me his card, got my info and told me they would call me Monday after the morning rush, and that they had a set of steps in stock.
So, I'd say it's looking pretty good so far. I guess I'll know for sure tomorrow!
ETA Seems like the guy I spoke with first was a service writer, not the manager.
