Has anyone here (who doesn't have the factory dual exhaust) simply had the muffler replaced and nothing else? Not looking for more performance, just a little deeper/louder tone to the exhaust. Wondering how it would be with just the stock muffler replaced (Flowmaster 40 for example) and leaving everything else alone. Can't find any sound clips since everyone seems to have factory duals or has added duals on YouTube.

On the 2001 Ram 5.9L that I had years ago (the lemon I mentioned in a previous thread), I had complete aftermarket duals put on (headers and everything). It sounded awesome, but not looking to get that loud or spend that much money right now.

Any input would be appreciated. :)

If you want just a touch more rumble over stock, I would go with an 18" Magnaflow.

With a single in / out any muffler shop should be able to easily install a muffler in place of the factory one.

That being said, most of the time, I feel my 18" is tooo quiet.

ok, an aftermarket cai will make the muffler louder....nothing extreme, but noticeable

I have a 2003 Hemi and cut out the muffler and replaced it with an old fashioned glass pack. It was cheap easy and I think it sounds great. I still have the factory cat and everything.

I've done a simple muffler swap on other vehicles and it worked just fine. In the case of this truck, I put on a Magnaflow single in / dual out configuration and had new tailpipes built for me.

Just had an exhaust shop do it? Mind if I ask what it cost?

At this point, I'm just wondering which model/size muffler would fit (for Flowmaster and Magnaflow). It's a lot different when you're not rebuilding the entire exhaust like I did last time.

I think a Flowmaster 50 Series would give you a sweet low rumble, without drone. The Super 44 would be a more aggressive sound.

But these new Hemi's are so plugged up with Cats n such, that it still won't be that loud.

Just peeked quick under the truck today. Looks like it would be really simple to do this. The muffler is just behind the rear axle. Not much tailpipe after it, so minimal bending. Thinking I might just change the muffler soonish.

Just figured I'd update. :)
