FINALLY got the Eibach Pro Lift springs installed... truck finally sits ALMOST level

Started on the driver’s side to find out that the previous owner didn’t really pay attention when he installed the struts:

-Bottom strut bolt on drivers side with roughly 1/8” thread still showing between the but and strut body [emoji15]

-out with the old... Buddy of mine lent me his F150, to make sure I could make trips back and forth till I got finished. Had to put the ‘Stang outside to make room in the garage.

-In with the new!

Set at 3rd notch, and got me much closer to level:
LF: 38.5
LR: 38.5
RF: 38 5/8
RR: 39

I was worried I’d be adding a spacer to get the rear back up, but it appears that it won’t be an issue.

Obligatory CV/control arm angle pics - it’s been raining here, not a leaking truck, lol.

Guys, been having a flaring shift from 3-4 from time to time, but now seeing flaring between 6-7, and a shudder in the 4-5 shift.

Planned on changing trans fluid and filter, but today it had a big flare going up a hill, and locked itself in 4th. Restart resolved it. Check engine light on, CTS2 unable to show code. Buddy put a snap on scanner on truck, and came up with several codes, but one for the trans.

P191D-00
Incorrect Gear Ratio - Clutch 3 Defective

Cleared the code, and flare only occasionally happens, usually kept down due to throttle foot.

Thoughts?

Called the dealer who put my new engine in, and they recommended I bring it somewhere local To have the TCM checked, rather than bringing it all the way to them for a potential transmission issue. I have a friend who is the truck manager at a semi-local ram dealer, and I’ll be probably be taking it to them this week for diagnostic

Interested in how this unfolds for ya, I still don't really know what a trans flare is per se, this is the first I've heard of it.

Not a Ram, but here’s an example of what I’m talking about - excuse the language:

The guy or the symptom? Hahahaha
Both! Have you driven the truck in tow haul mode? Unless I'm on the highway my truck never comes out of tow haul, I think it drives like ass crack otherwise.

I hate The way it drives in tow haul. Holds gears way too long, and revs way too high when cruising in town. My tune has the engine braking option, so the stops can get a little annoying.

I get to speed, and set cruise in as high a gear as I can, lol

I forgot you are tuned. I'm stock so this little piggy needed some waking up. Do you have trans tuning as well

Crap. I didn't see that you'd responded. My bad. No trans tuning. You can rest assured that I will after this!

UPDATE: Took it too the dealer. Hung out for over an hour. Got told "It needs a transmission." Given an estimate. I asked if they'd flashed the TCM like I requested. Their response: "That's not what the program told him to do."
-Will not be using said dealer for anything further, other than the occasional oil change.

Have a local trans shop that will swap out the trans with a new MOPAR unit. Also have another local shop that says that they can rebuild it as well. Sounds like a cheaper option. Saw the sonnax ZIP kit for that trans, but would like the idea of making some other upgrades (read durability). Anyone know of another company that offers anything for the 8HP70?? Could have sworn Id read it somewhere.

UPDATE:

Thought I’d posted in this thread, but I don’t see a reply.

Truck is currently parked at the trans shop. Got in it Sunday afternoon, and she wouldn’t come out of park. Gave a couple of different codes, both relating to no communication with the shift dial.

Towed it home
e9777fd078dd260abfeca3c1d7eaea61.jpg

Got up Monday morning, disconnected every BUS connector I could find under the driver’s side of the truck, cleaned, sprayed with WD40, and reconnected. No bueno. 2nd tow:

1953351016d949c4d9482d514104b9cb.jpg

Tow driver made multiple requests to buy the truck. Made him an offer I couldn’t refuse. He’s headed to the bank, lol.

Just talked to the trans shop. Appears the solenoid at the back of the VB/back of shift rod is defective. States that he cannot get just the solenoid, but has to buy a new VB to repair. Has a trans on the shelf for a gas burner 1500, but says that the VB is not interchangeable. Is currently dropping to pan to assess for mechanical damage.

Does anyone have a parts diagram of the valve body or transmission? Has anyone heard of anything like this?

So, another update... solenoid has been removed, and it’s definitely bad. Cut open the pagans found chunks of clutch material. He’s leaning towards a new trans. I asked about a rebuild, and he said he could, but it would be his first, and I would still have to buy a VB.

We still have the issue of programming the TCM. Local guy will flash both ECM and TCM, Charge me like $300, and I’ll be in limp mode. Will have to have ECM reflashed regardless. SFT says he can program both, and I’ll be ready to go.

Is there any way we could get numbers off that solenoid to look into a new one?

I’m torn.

-I’ll have about a grand in the VB, plus $500 for a basic rebuild kit, and his labor.

-OR I could get a new (Reman) from MOPAR, and have it put in. 3 yr warranty. All new parts.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

What's a reman cost???

Honestly unless you owe money on this thing id drive it, and save until the time is right to buy something and sell it. Everything is for sale for the right price!!!.... a vehicle isn't exactly an investment so run it till it becomes a financial burden per se. Have you been having issues leading up to this?

A mopar reman is $4600 installed + fluids and tune. I do owe on the truck, but the price I gave the tow driver was $6k over what I owe. At that rate, I’d almost be foolish not to. Could put that on another one with lower miles, and POTENTIALLY be out ahead.

If not, I’ll keep putting miles on this one.

If someone was willing to give me that, with a blown trans, that **** would be out of my driveway immediately. It's a nice truck, but unless it was paid off id consider it. If I didn't owe so much on mine I'd be looking to drop mine and get back to something older. This EPA lawsuit really killed any value I had in this thing.

We all know vehicles are a terrible financial investment, but a necessity. Did the shop allude to the cause of the damage?
