If it's anything like carquest oil, which I believe they are both blended by Ashland oil all they say is meets all standards. I guess you can read whatever you want to into that. I know the ram dealer that I deliver to uses carquest oil if you go in there and say you want 5/20 sythetic for your oil change.

Thanks for your reply!

My Engine oil is due soon, so i had to ask as right now i do have the above oil in my truck and have 6900 miles on that oil with a napa gold filter.

Can't pass the offer at $3/qt on the Napa, And yes i do change my oil at around 7000 miles.

This info is from AllDataPro:

FLUID TYPE SPECIFICATIONS
5.7L Oil Type* SAE 5W20
API Certified SAE 5W-20 Engine Oil, meeting the requirements of Chrysler Material Standard MS-6395 such as MOPAR.
Refer to your engine oil filler cap for correct SAE grade MOPAR.
*5.7L Engine for trucks operating under a gross combined weight rating greater than 14,000 lbs/(6,350 kg.), we recommend you use API Certified SAE 5W-30 Engine Oil,
meeting the requirements of Chrysler Material Standard MS-6395 such as MOPAR.

I guess will stick to 5w20, as i see other people will go up to 5w30.

Thanks,

Realize that 5/20 is specified for gas mileage only, most that work their trucks or run them hard use 5/30. In my case I use 5/30 for the extra protection and my engine is alot quieter with it.

Yes, I see.

I was reading in some other threads about people going from 5w20 to 5w30 because engine runs much quieter and the extra protection. I guess i may go up to 5w30 also.

Thanks,

Also you might want to research the particular oil you want to use. The carquest brand contains 0 moly as do several other Mopar spec oils. It's the general consensus that the hemi likes and needs moly for a long life.

How much zinc should we use in our Hemi’s?? I understand the moly it needs.

There are two 5.7's still, you have a 1500 so 5w30 is never recommended by Ram. MDS are "supposed" to take 5w20. You have to ask the question what matters to you, what the manu wants you to use or what you want to use.

I tried the "what the manufacture wants me to use", figured out pretty quick in that wasn't working for me. Went with "what I want to use" and couldn't be happier.

I don't know the majic number or if there is one. The m1ep 5/20 that I was running before redline advertised 900 ppm of zinc. That oil ran great it was just that I was fixated on running a 5/30 if I could.

After doing some more research, found out this info:
Napa Engine Oil is made by Valvoline
Napa Oil Filters are made by Wix.

Here some info i found posted somewhere else by someone:

WIX makes ALL of the NAPA filters whether from the Affinia Group or other Wix facility. Pro Select and Silver as well as Gold and Platinum. The parent company MANN+Hummel also owns Purolator as well as their own MANN filter brand. They acquired all of WIX/Affinia holdings in 2016. All of the companies are operated as separate businesses by MANN+Hummel of Germany. This info comes from WIX product information department.

So it looks that
Napa Full Synthetic 5W20 - NOL 75530
https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/NON75530
is a MS-6395 Chrysler Certified engine oil.
Now from what i see when it comes to Engine oil filter must get the Napa gold or Platinum.

I'm not knocking you're choice but from what I've read just about any SN rated oil will meet ms6395 standards. Just because the oil meets those standards, which are minimum standards by the way, doesn't mean that's what you're engine needs. Some people think oil is oil is oil, it's all the same. A good place to start investigating is PQIA, they have tested a whole lot of oils and it gives VOA's on all of them. Some of the more boutique oils if that's what you want to call them you might have to search a little more to get info on them.

Is the Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W-20 Full Synthetic Motor Oil better than what the dealer sells? , as they sell the Pennzoil Platinum 5W-20 Full Synthetic Motor Oil.

Thanks,
