My 2014 2500 Laramie did 11 years of hard service. 10 years were absolutely trouble free, but it had let us down on 3 big trips over the last 15 month requiring some big repairs.
4/24 Radiator leak 300 miles from home. New radiator installed during the trip while we rode around in a rental jeep, and prayed they would finish in time to tow my fiver home.
5/24 Transmission problem 400 miles from home. Gear ratio codes. Manage to limp it home. Ended up installing a RevMax valve body and new solenoid. Transmission was working better than new.
7/24 Did a 4200 mile round trip up to Canada with zero issues
12/24 big snowmobiling trips, and the dash and interior LEDs starter flickering(still an issue)
1/25 Passenger tail light lost some LEDs(still an issue)
3/25 Driver tail light lost some LEDs(still an issue)
7/25 Was going to do fluid change on diffs/transfer case, install powerstop front brakes, and order tail lights, but the truck started overheating within 10 miles of our destination Thursday.

Drove it to the shop in town. Took him all of 5 minutes to diagnose fan clutch. He had no parts, couldn't get one until the day after we were supposed to leave, and couldn't get me on his schedule until the day after that.
The next day, my wife and kids went with here extended family to the lake and I limped to a dealership in the wee hours to keep it from overheating. They quoted me $800, and a day to get the part. Add that to all the other little stuff needing to be done, and being let down on multiple trips it pushed me over the edge. Couple hours later, and I drove off in this:

How do you like the new Cummins/8 speed combo?
So far, it's incredible. Acceleration and drivability are better than any Cummins truck I have every driven. Towed 11K, and 14K so far. It always seem to be in the right gear, and the exhaust brake is even better than I expected.

Same here, seems every trip I was taking some new issue, and an engine light would come on. This time on I-80 heading to Rock Springs the turbo to intercooler hose split at the intercooler. The tech stated this is the third Ram with Cumins he has seen with this problem. So, I've traded my 2022 for 2025 and will pick it up early this afternoon. I'm looking forward to the 8 speed but am a little concerned about the 3.42 ratio in the thirds. I'm hoping the 8 speed can compensate for the taller gears.

Sometimes an upgrade such as that, especially when going to a 1-ton truck, is the less costly way to go. Congratulations! :)

From first hand owner reports I've read, the new 8 speed is a great trans, it handles max weight very well and I have not read about any complaints with the 4.42 gears used with the 8 speed....

Yep. Zero issues with mine. It will spin the tires in second gear(found out accidentally), so i don't think the 3.42s are a big deal. I haven't tried to turn on tow/haul unloaded to try and force first gear. I'll try that tonight. The max I've had on it is around 14.5K(~2900lb pin), and I was laughing at how easy it was.

Love the white. Very intrigued by the new trans combo.

The best repair: Jack up the radiator cap, and back a new truck under it.

Tow/haul forces the truck to use 1st. It gets out pretty quick, and is probably too much for normal driving. As you're coming to a stop, the transmission is downshifting with speed. Hitting first with no load is very abrupt, and not something I would want all the time.
Best thing for throttle response seems to be driving with the exhaust brake on full.

Kind of funny you say 10 years no issues and then year 11 those issues began. I also had a 2014 big horn. No issues at all for 10 years. Then year 11 also had a radiator leak. Thought it was fixed with relaxing if and then it started happening again. Only this time I was told there was actually a leak with the block and would need a new engine. Was also told I really need a new rear end. I decided it had served me well and traded for a new 2025 Laramie. Really like it and hoping it can give me at least the same type of service as my 2014 which I also loved.
