Hello everyone, new member here!
I recently purchased a pre-owned '10 QC Sport with 40K miles. The day after I picked up the truck the CEL light came on. I have an app for my iPhone that can read DTCs so I immediately checked into it. I came up with a code P3497 - Cylinder Deactivation System Bank 2. I made an appointment with the dealer and after 2-1/2 days apparently all they did was flash the computer because on the way home the CEL light came back on. It was after hours so the following morning I called, explained everything and made another appointment. After having it for another 2-1/2 days they called me and said I needed new solenoids and lifters. They said it would take about a week for the parts and the truck is perfectly safe to drive. So the next week (last Friday) they called and said the parts were in, so I made another appointment for this past Tuesday. I get a call Tuesday afternoon telling me they're still working on the truck and they'll call me tomorrow. I in fact get a call the next day but it wasn't to say the truck was ready. They proceed to tell me that they installed the parts but can't seem to get the timing correct and that I have a cam problem. They have to order a cam which will be in Friday (today). This all isn't making sense to me because the truck ran perfect on 8 cylinders, I just had a problem with the MDS when it tried to switch to 4 cylinders. Well it gets worse... I get a call this afternoon "we've had a bit of a setback. We found out why your engine was misfiring. One of the valve seats dropped down into the short block. We're going to have to give you a new engine".
WTF! New solenoids and lifters make sense, but a cam? And now an entirely new engine! I don't know if I'd trust them to fix me a sandwich let alone install a new engine.
I'm not sure how to feel about this. I'm happy I'm getting a brand new engine but hoping it's not the beginning of a whole new set of problems. I almost feel like they ruined my engine, and now I'm suppose rest easy that they're going to install the new one correctly...
Has anyone heard if this before?
Thanks in advance!
