I have installed after market stereos before but I keep seeing things about harnesses and all that.

I bought the Planet Audio PI9758B for my 06 Ram 1500 mega. The wiring harness that comes with the stereo is kinda goofy looking. When ever I have hooked up a new stereo to a car I have never had harnesses and had to hook up each wire to the correct one.

My question is do I have to have a different harness to connect the stereo or if I have to can I just connect each wire to its corresponding wire for the unit?

Thanks for any answers.

If your factory plugs plug into the adapter that is pictured and the second plug plugs into your new headunit you should be good to go

Well I found the C2R-CHY4 harness that everyone is talking about on amazon for $64. If I order it tonight I can get it Saturday and can install the stereo this weekend (fingers crossed).

Before buying the new harness I ran outside to the truck and after watching a video of how to take a part the dash and mini console I took it apart. Then pulled the stereo and of course the harness on the stereo is longer then this harness for the actually new stereo.

I am afraid even with the C2R-CHY4 harness that it will still not fit. I am guessing at that point I will have to pull the wires from the new stereo harness and connect them to the C2R-CHY4 harness.

Does this sound right to anyone? Thanks again for any help.

PS huntram03 I am also an Army vet of OIF. Sep 03 to Sep 04.

Well not a big deal about the harness. I bought the C2R-CHY4 harness and got it Saturday. I attempted to install the new radio but in the end decided I would go to someone who knows more of what they are doing.

The instructions to these things just plain suck. Trying to figure out which line is positive and negative was a joke. I blew the fuse 4 times trying to figure it out.

Finally I got the power wiring right, I think since I did not blow the fuse.

Next problem is trying to figure out how to get the new stereo to shut off when I turn the truck off. It stayed on every time I tried. I connected two different wires separate that I thought would turn it off but they did not. Any help there?

Well if I get some input I might try again. Otherwise I will try and find a place to install it for me next week. Thanks again.

Well bad news... After I finally got everything working and then installed the radio in the dash I found out that the screen will not open all the way because of the Dodge's bezel.

Now I have to return the stereo and order another one.

Has anyone here installed a stereo with a motorized screen in a 06 Dodge Ram Mega cab and the screen was able to open fully?

If so what stereo was it? Also I am looking at stereo's who's screens fold down instead of up. Has anyone used these? Would it fit better with my truck's bezel?
