How do you know when you need new shocks? Driving I hear like popping noises on anything not smooth and level. Checked the breaks, no grooved in the rotors. Everything else, motor and transmission is good.

i knew i needed new shocks when my front end would drive on a hard brake. or do the bounce test. give the front end one hard push down. if it bounces more than once its time for new shocks. Not science but it's been the way to check for shocks since I was a kid. But unless you're going on a lot of rough terrain I doubt in 5 or 6 years your shocks are shot. could be something else in the suspension. in my experience other front end components go long before the shocks. bearings, tie rod ends, etc.

What vehicle. Sounds like might be ball joints if it’s popping. They’ll make noise if they are loose
