Brand new 5.7 HEMI and my wife sees in the owners manual to “drive sparingly for the first 100 miles..then avoid sustained highway speeds for long periods until 500 miles”

We have a long trip planned and we’re going to use this vehicle for 9-10 hours at 70mph and the truck has 117 miles on it..

Why is this in the manual and will we do some damage if we drove it in the interstates “too soon”

Just vary your cruising speed for the 500 miles. Running an engine at one speed when new has something to do with possible resonance of tight parts. Go between 65-75 mph unless your climbing grades which then don't worry about it.
There's probably many people who have bought new trucks an hit the highway cruising without any issues, I wouldn't loose any sleep over it.

Most new cars, trucks tell you that in manual.
It's often called Break-in period. Usually first 500-1000 miles.
Some have one stage or two stage process.

I've had few cars in past that said don't drive on highway for first 200-300 miles, don't use cruise, don't tow, etc...

If you google it, you can find more exact details as to why you should follow the manual.

I wouldn't worry about it. I towed in the first couple of hundred miles 1800 miles each way.

If you really are worried and don't want to do it just vary your speed a bit with your foot.

Or just take a couple of quick drives before you leave and put some miles on it.

Just drive the flow and don't hot dog it. :) The truck will be good to ya.
