Good evening gentlemen I have a bit of a pickle and I’m not sure what’s goin on. Little backstory on Aug 4th I was towing my camper and approximately 2 hours into the trip my truck died. All dash lights shut off engine shut off no power steering etc. after about 10 mins the dash lights came back on and truck started right back up no issues. Cel came on with a p1dca code. Park sense circuit open. Went away the next day. Thought that was the end of it. Well last Tuesday it happened again on my morning drive to work and same thing. 10 mins later started up same code. Then on this Monday when I came home truck died again in my driveway this time nothing. No dash lights key stuck in ignition all I have is milage. No door dingers for key stuck in ignition. Out of the blue yesterday I opened the truck and started dinging so I started it and went to drive it to the other side of my driveway so I can load it on a trailer and it died again. Same problem no lights key stuck. Today key came out but still have nothing to the dash. Any ideas?

Ignition or TIPM, you can bypass ignition with a push start button real cheap. You use the cig lighter relay, it only comes on with power.

You can hide the push button start, so nobody would even know you had it. Yes this isnt a "real" solution, but it gives you a back up and some knowledge.

Man that’s an awesome idea, but the truck doesn’t register that a key is in the ignition. I can put the key in, but no dash lights at all except milage indicator. Turn the key nothin comes on. No radio no dash no windows.

I mean, the simple first thing to do, if you haven't already is to check your battery connections and grounds. Have a test done on your battery. It may not be it, probably isn't, but it's a quick check ...you have to rule the simple things out. Then look at the fuse panel and inspect the fuses. Because you're in MI, I would suggest wiggling each fuse, due to the possibility of corrosion. There's a main fuse link, looks like a metal bar ..that could be corroded underneath.

I've read reports by other owners in the past on this forum, that the fuse panel can work 'up' from the TIPM. But then you wouldn't think it would start up again after a few minutes. But it wouldn't hurt to look under and around the TIPM and inspect the wires carefully in the off-chance a rodent chewed a couple wires.

Most likely if it was a cam or crank sensor failure, it a) wouldn't re-start after 10 minutes, and b) wouldn't make everything in the truck 'go dark'. So I think we can rule them out. About the only thing that would do that is something tied to the main computer, or main power/grounds/switch ...or something (connector or wiring) between them.

If you wiggle your key in the ignition, when it doesn't start, does it make a difference? The ignition is a module that contains a circuit board and some chips and communicates with the TIPM ..it's not just a simple switch anymore. There are a couple small metal contactors which contact a rotating disk (when you rotate the key) ...and they must work and contact properly. This is a source of no-start situations. They can and do get flaky, esp where guys have a heavy key ring/chain with other keys/fobs, etc. There used to be a number of posts on the subject. And this is something that happens on some GM cars too ..where a bad ignition signal makes the computer 'think' the vehicle is being stolen ...and ya have to wait 20 minutes. But the root cause is a bad ignition switch. There are a couple good youtube videos on how to remove the Ram module/switch & clean these contacts. Not that difficult. Depends how handy you are. One video the guy disassembled the circuit board off the module, but really a guy ought to be able to get access to the contacts with some care and the right small brush, w/o disassembling the actual circuit board. Use some CRC contact cleaner. That might be something to look at.

What alarm system, if any, does your Ram have? I don't know enough about the alarms and a possible immobilizer on the Rams to advise. But after the switch and TIPM, something to consider if it's being activated. When an immobilizer becomes activated (in cars), there's a wait period before it'll restart.

Well, that's a scattergun of ideas to check. Good luck, hope you find it w/o much trouble.

JeepWalker battery voltage approx 12.7. Load tests good went through all grounds and connections front to back all sensors and pigtails pulled the tipm out and checked all back side for corrosion and all fuse ports had the win out and cleaned these were my first ideas I’m a heavy duty truck mechanic so I figured oh I’ll figure it out. Well the damn thing is sure kickin my ass haha. Might just have to get the 74 duster goin again and drive that instead

Hey guys just wanted to know I’m pretty sure I’ve eliminated everything except the ignition. Called ram minimum 30 days out if I emergency order. Would a used one suffice? Gotta get reprogrammed by a dealer I know but maybe it’s worth it?

Just went through this about a month ago. Same symptoms, and it was really kicking me. Do yourself a favor, look under the dash where your left foot would normally sit. There is a white connector mounted to the firewall just above where your left foot would set. Check and see if that is loose. It has a weird connector that your foot can hit if your tall enough.

Do you have a Column Shifter or the Rotary Shifter.

If it is a column shifter, it is not all the way in the upwards position

Okmitch funny you say that because the first time it happens on Aug 4th I found that connector was loose and re snapped it together checked again once my symptoms started happening again and no luck it’s still snapped tight. Gtyankee it’s the rotary shifter

Well gentlemen I loaded ole girl up on the trailer yesterday and took her to the dealer last night and out the keys in the drop box. Called em this morning and gave all the info. They called me at noon and told me they would bring it in after lunch. Got a call at 3. Found the main ign wire coming from the bottom on the tipm was corroded inside the insulation and had broke in half. No way of seeing it! So 500$ later gained some valuable info about these trucks!
