I'm shopping for a 3500 dually crew cab 4X4 HO Cummins 8 foot bed either Laramie or Big Horn to pull a 21,000 lb GVWR 5th wheel but the numbers don't make sense. I see this under the Ramtrucks.com Detailed specs page: upload_2021-4-25_17-9-6.png

Taking the GVWR minus the Curb weight I would think equals the payload but not even close so I look up the actual specs using VIN on ramtrucks and see this:

If I can't exceed GVWR and curb is @ 7,500 lbs how can they put 5,216 for payload?

I'm guessing my kingpin will be somewhere between 4 to 4,500 lbs so I need at least 5,000 payload. I'm starting my search online so I know which dealers might have what I want and I'm 5 hours from these dealers (I'm in Cali and want to purchase in Phoenix). In short, if there's real numbers on the door post I can't get to them. Is there another way to get the real numbers or am I way off?

Something does seem off there. 7500lbs is to light for a Laramie Cummins dually that’s a solid 8500-9000lb truck. My mega cab gas big horn 2500 is 7200lbs. Anyways the dually 3500 should have a GVW of 14000lb. That being said you should have around 5000lbs for payload with a Laramie.

^^^ what he said
I know a 2500 CrewCab w/8' bed CTD is about 8200 lbs, the 8500-9000 lbs is more the ballpark for a 3500 dually.

Also your pictures show 11,400 as GVWR. That's for the Hemi. A SRW 3500 with 8' bed is 12,300lbs, and the Dually you are looking for has GVWR of 14,000.

Thats why it doesn't make sense. As others said your curb weight is going to be in the 8500-9000lb range. With GVWR of 14,000lbs, that puts your payload in the 5000-5500lb range. Options will affect curb weight and payload.

If you are looking at a dually the GVWR is going to 14,000lbs. A long bed, crew cab dually is going to be heavy with a Cummins as others have said. At least the 8500lbs range for a curb weight.

I'm over 7700lbs with a Mega Cab dually with the 6.4 Hemi.

Agree numbers are off, but really hard to know exact numbers until you look at door stickers. Every option/package you add on impacts payload with a basic Tradesman probably maxing out payload and going down from there. Maybe find a similarly provisioned truck on a lot and look at the numbers on the door pillar. Good luck.

If you are looking in the Phoenix area, there is a dealer out there that has a pretty nice looking Bighorn crew, dually with the HO.
