Fellas,
Went to the grocery store this morning. Came back out to leave and no start!!! That sux!!! Not even a year old. When I jumped it off, check engine light came on and big screen said " Service Electronic Stability Control". When I went to drive it, would not come out of first gear. Let it set for about 15 minutes then jumped is again, drove it and it started shifting. Took it to dealership and let them deal with it under warranty!!! Damn!!

2017 Ram 1500 Hemi Sport Crew Cab

Purchased new by first owner in July 2017

Replaced the battery a month ago on 3/6/20 with about 16,500 miles.

There are no freeways where I live. I do mostly short distance stop-and-go city driving... average 3 to 7 start ups per day. It's hot and humid year-round with temps between 80-90 degrees.

I work at a dealer and Mopar just changed manufacturer of batteries.
We have around 600 units.
I average about 10 to 15 batteries a month replacing dead units.
So far I have not had to replace the new vendor's.

Who makes the new batteries?

I live in Arizona and we all just plan to replace a battery every 24 months. One that runs longer is a gift but those 120 degree summers take their toll.

Bad batteries take a major toll on electronics and transmission particularly. My Ford F150 has a battery go bad and it put the trans in limp mode, could not get shifted above 2nd gear. Voltage matters with all the newfangled doodads.

In the deep south we get about 2-3 years on a battery. Anything longer and it's gravy.

I've got a '12. Just turned 80k. Oem battery still cranks it easily. Probably have to change it by fall just for peace of mind. Battery in my 01 made it 9years then left me stranded at work

Bought mine as an Enterprise rental with about 18k on the odometer, put into service in February 2018, I bought it in December 2018.

Had a battery die in January.

Got it replaced under warranty.

Longest lasting battery I ever had was in a Chevy HHR (AC Delco) which died 2 weeks before we were going to trade it in on another car after 8-1/2 years.

Optimas? Don't get me started. I own four of 'em, have had four go t!ts up inside months of ownership in a HMMWV, generator, and a Tacoma.

Got warranty replacements, still watching boards about other people's experiences with batteries/brands.

2016 since new from dealer. Died a couple months ago but here's the kicker... The battery was coded 2013. There's a thread on here somewhere and it seems a lot of our trucks from 2013 to late 2017 ALL had 2013 batteries so although I got right around 5 years on mine, the battery was actually 8 years old. Honestly I think Covid killed mine. The truck sat unused for long periods of time and with only VERY short trips when I did use it Don't even think I added 400 miles in all of 2020! Add in a couple very cold days this winter and very little charge... Had I been driving enough to keep her fully charged (thought never even crossed my mind in all this madness) I think I would have gotten an extra year or two. Either way, that batteries number was coming up soon enough.

'03 Dakota 4.7, bought new May '03. I traded it in with 160k miles for my '18 Ram in Sept '18 with the original battery and it was still strong.

Have a friend of mine who has a 09' ram 1500 quad cab with the 5.7 V8. He has 80K on it and still has the original battery in it. He lives in PA so the truck sees all climates. That's got to be a record.

2016 2500, 61,000 miles or 5 years - pretty amazing

The build date on my 2017 1500 Limited (Hemi) was March 2017. In service date was May 2017. I had to replace the OEM battery in October 2022. Roughly 5 1/2 years. I just had an issue with the battery yesterday after work. Started fine in the morning (with remote start) but wouldn't start after work. Nice day, about 45F out and sunny. I would just hear a slight "click" like from a relay, not the repetitive clicking from the solenoid one would expect (like it did in 2022 when the OEM battery went). I put a meter on the battery and got 11.2 Volts. I used the bosses truck to boost it and same issue. I waited 5 minutes and it fired right up.

I left work and bought a new battery. I didn't turn off the engine after boosting it until I got home. I put a meter on it and was getting 14.6 Volts. I then shut off the engine and tried to start it back up and it started right up as I expected it to.

This morning it fired right up again with the remote start. I haven't changed the battery yet. Very odd. I am sure the battery should still be good for another 2-3 years but batteries can be unpredictable like that. I am curious if there may be another issue??
