Hello
I bought a 2012 Ram 1500 with the 4.7 l, V8. I was getting ready to do an oil change on the weekend and noticed a size difference with the oil filter on the truck.
The oil filter that was given to me is about 4" in diameter and about the same in length. I have checked many filters for this truck and this is the one they recommend.
The filter on the truck is a lot smaller around and longer. When I cross referenced the number on the filter on the truck, it comes back as being the one for the 3.7 l, V6. This filter fits the mounting flange on the truck perfectly, if I were to use the larger filter it would be bigger than the mounting bracket.
My question is, why do they have the smaller filter on the truck, did they change something on these trucks at some point.
And before you ask, it is a 4.7 L, V8, it is written on top of the engine and there are 8 spark plugs in the vehicle.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank You
