I think this thread can some to an easy conclusion, if Royal Purple is soon to not have any oil filters, use the fram xg2 end of story? Sadly the amsoil 11 is not a rp clone when it comes to inlet holes, so who would have thought the orange can of death will be the last man standing in the search for the highest quality filters?

If there's not enough of ANY media, or hole size, you guys are reporting lifter ticks. And so it seems that the low flow restriction is far more important to reducing lifter lube issues than removing small wear particles.

However, one can have both low restriction and high filtration by using a large high efficiency filter. Royal Purple 10-48 and Fram XG 10060 should be avoided - too small and too restrictive.

Largest = Royal Purple 20-820 (out of production?); Fram Ultra XG2
Medium = Royal Purple 20-500; Fram Ultra XG 10575

Larger filters don't fit my Hemi 6.4, I've used both medium filters with success (no ticks).

Well if you're truck is ticking on one filter, I'd avoid that too.

Worth mentioning that my truck has never ticked, and I've run all sorts of filters: a few Mopar/OEM, 2x RP 10-48, 1x RP 20-820, 3 x Fram XG10060, and soon the Fram XG2.

I personally don't think there is a low oil flow problem in the first place though. My opinion is still bad individual lifters probably exacerbated by poor quality/dirty oil. I don't know how else we can explain one individual filter failing in an engine whereas the others are still in 100% perfect condition after 150k+ miles.

So that's why I'm more worried about poor filtration and less about flow.

My point, we shouldnt have to worry about either, I mean one option should have both, and does. We have two examples of great filters large and in charge. One is out of stock, but there is still yet another option. I don't prefer to settle, but I can tell you from experience even the large filter can be responsible for tick, and then when I replaced it- tick went away, a little more research the issue was discovered- the center tube was restricting flow.

I've had tick from oil bleed down; the kind where you start truck when cold, move around for 2 minutes shut it down; then start up in 2 hours again. That occurs with every filter I've run though, some one on this forum said one possibility was due to a faulty/bad anti drain back valve and to make sure oil got at least 50 degs C. Last feb I replaced just my fram filter to see if that helped, it didn't though. Oddly for me that tick only seems to happen in the cold winter months, I've been experimenting lately running with MDS enabled on those few short trips to see if that helps. So far so good.

But I've never had that lifter tick at hot idle which is the classic "hemi tick"/lifter failure. I will grab a video at some point and let you all hear how smooth this thing sounds on HPL and the small Fram. Hard to say if it's quieter than the RL I had before because poor memory and confirmation bias affects me too, but it sounds so quiet. Very happy with it at this point if I can keep that bleed down away. But yeah, as soon as my oil filter relocation kit is installed I'm going back to the bigger filters, the big Fram doesn't seem to fit right now without a struggle.

I've found reving the engine to about 1500 to 1700 rpm for a few seconds before shutting it down,when you're moving it around on the driveway,and it's only running for a minute or 2,helps mimimize lifter rattle on the next start up

I've been doing what @Wild one said for the past 2 years when I just have to move the truck quick and turn it off right away. Doing the quick rev up the next startup is nice and quiet. I used to cringe every time when I'd hear all that clacking/rattling and not look forward to starting the truck the next time it was only ran for a minute or so.

Apparently good news, Royal Purple 20-820's are set to be in stock feb 6. Amazon is now taking pre orders. If this is your filter, I'd stock up they will store well, I've stocked this exact filter since 2017, but other canister rp filters for a decade and you cant tell they werent new. My guess the media untouched will outlive you. Someone must have told them they will be in stock or why would they do this? I do this all the time with amazon, and they have always sent the item eventually. I have another item like this they keep updating me sooner ship dates.

Yeah they have been and just keep pushing that estimated ship date back at least 3 times now(originally back in September).

Summit Racing has been doing this for months ... taking "special orders" for the Royal Purple 20-820 and moving the ship date since last September.

Well, It's been a week since my HEMI's oci @ ~ 120 miles using the AMSOIL EAO11 oil filter and Red Line 5w/30 combo.

At first start up with this combo there was light engine clatter for a few seconds and on a couple of later start ups.

As of now with just a little over a hundred miles my HEMI has returned to how it was on the previous RP 20-820 and Red Line oil combo.

Oil pressure cold/hot hasn't changed and is exact as the RP 20-820/Red Line 5w/30 combo I had previously used.

Still, I'll post if something dramatic changes, so far so good, but it's still very early in this oci.

Fwiw, I always preload an oil filter before putting it on ... the larger size oil filters are harder to install if completely filled. So, I've filled them at about half full ... it's easier and no spills.

I'm going to eventually get an oil filter relocation kit and not have the headache of cramming the oil filter up and in place without spills ...

Yeah for sure, just because the amsoil 11 has two less holes, it still is a 20-820 clone absent that, which means it really should be considered a top choice for the replacement. Thanks for the update.
