Yep came with vice same one previous member posted just different company. You know I didn’t even think of it! My reciprocating saw would probably work wonders with a metal blade.

I have changed no less than 30 oil changes on 3.6L using mopar filters and never had one come out twisted like that.
Idk this is what all the Mopar filters come out looking like on the wife's 2017 GC as well as the first one that came out of her 2020 GC. This is the first filter out of the 2020 and has about 1000 miles on it. When I let them go 5000+ the pleats are more wavy.b636868876cdbc54410ffb46f3968bce.jpg

That second pic looks like what the 3.6 filter looks like after an oil change....
I slacked on my last oil change, 12000 km is the count down on the 3.6, I let mine go over 15000km and it didn't look anything like that twisted filter.

Agreed that filter pictured was way twisted and deformed, I was just showing that the 3.6 Mopar filter does that to a certain degree.

Yeah I think I paid $45 for it a few years ago which I thought wasn't bad but $74 is a bit steep.

I wonder if you could find a big pipe cutter that would fit the oil filter...
The ones I have used to open aircraft oil filters was a different design than the one that is linked to. It has been a while but I don't think it was that expensive.
Check out "Aircraft Spruce and Speciality" They should have something.

What's the downside of the pleats being wavy.

There either was no bypass in filter or it wasn't working. Usually means pleats were stiff and not allowing proper oil flow through media. Over works oil pump, poor filtration, and it if it is bad enough engine damage for sure.

Just found this thread thanks to Burla's footer links.

+1 on synthetic filter media....cellulose age crumbles, doesn't filter well, restricts flow
Interesting Royal Purple testing cleanest. Wasn't aware of that, might switch. Been using Fram Ultra's due to their published small particle efficiency. Pretty clear RP is better?

Wix reputed not to have as fine a filtration, never saw any test results. Just from published efficiency values.

BITOG loves Fram Ultra, that's where I found out about them.

Cummins Engines have Fleetguard Synthetic Filter option (I used to work for them).

Thanks much.

Just like oil, oil filters are constantly changing. I think the GM test is a good starting point, but with puro and others newer synthetic technology added to the fact we have distribution issues/challenges with amsoil and royal purple, it makes sense to research other options. Main thing, before choosing a filter long term, at a minimum cut open one of your filters and see how the media held up. That GM test deals with new fresh media.

So what does that mean? In my opinion it means synthetic filtration is even better then the gm test proves, because we know paper stiffens with long term use and synthetic media often seams to get better with use. Spun microglass is crazy good, but we need a thread that deals with used oil filters or add more to this thread.

WIX XP not being in gm test was the largest disappointment in the thread, it is very clear the wix xp is thinner and tighter media then royal purple/amsoil which is thicker and looser. Unless there is another large test like this one, we may never know that, it should just be preference. The main takeaway from the GM test that was new information is that spun microglass media filters better then paper even from the start! There is literally no advantage to paper except cost.

FWIW had a discussion with a Royal Purple engineer last week.

He stated the 20-820 was designed for pre-EPS 2012 Rams.

10-48 for EPS 5.7 engines and the 20-500 is the same exact diameter/fitting but 1.05” longer for even more extended use. Just installed with plenty of clearance, hope this helps as the 10-48 may not be as readily available for some.

Did RP engineer mention if 20-500 has same pressure relief range as 10-48, just longer?

Great info thanks!

Did he say if the 10-48 and 20-820 interchangeable? Are the bypass pressures the same?

Thank you, Mr. Garceau.

This site is a lot more informative than BITOG, and without the vitriol.

The 20-500 was covered in this thread I believe, it is smaller then the 20-820. The 20-820 is the oversized filter for all of the hemi filters. It is taller, but not as wide, so more media in the 20-820.

20-820 certainly may fit, but it’s going to be flirting with the steering gear.
I’ve went 15k miles on a 10-48 with a superb oil analysis under extreme use so no need to bust knuckles for anything bigger in diameter knowing the 20-500 works.
