Hey what’s up guys my first time being on this forum
I have a question I have a 2014 Dodge ram 1500 tradesmen with a V6 engine. I believe it’s a 3.6 pentastar
I’ve been asking around and nobody seems to know exactly at what psi
Does the oil pressure have to be while you’re just sitting at idle?
Because mine reads at 9 psi and some people tell me that that is OK but then I searched it on the Internet and it says that is not OK of course when I accelerate the PSI goes up but I heard that when you’re sitting on idol, the PSI has to be around 20 to 30 psi
I already changed the oil pressure sensor switch, and I already changed the oil pump
That will be really be cool if somebody could help me out

Our trucks do not play well with aftermarket sensors, just FYI.

Could also be a filter issue (too restrictive), not super-common, but does happen, especially if happpening since an oil change.

Need to check it with a mechanical gauge.

What are the symptoms? Your evic telling you it is 9 psi versus did you use a gauge? how do we know there is an issue?
Hey, what’s up man? The first thing was that the check engine light went on and the oil pump code came on, but I just changed the oil pressure switch and the check engine light went off and the oil pressure was low at 9 psi on idle
So then I went and replaced the oil pump and the psi is still low on idle
And the symptoms at the beginning were that on some point and loses power I guess when I accelerate it takes a while to get there
And I did a lot of research and supposedly for the psi to be good it has to be around 20 to 30 psi on idol
A lot of people are telling me to switch my oil to 5-30
Instead of the 5–20

I think that’s what I’m gonna do get a different type of gauge
Because I’m just reading off of what my dashboard says

Did you use an OE sensor?

On my 2002 1500, I replaced the oil pressure sensor 3 different times with aftermarket sensors. All 3 were junk. $20 vs. $100 for OE.

But, yes, a mechanical gauge will tell the tale.

My 2014 Express with the 3.6 idles at 24-28psi with 5w-20/MOPAR filter and 90,000 miles.

I added a mechanical oil pressure gauge to my 14 Hemi when the original pressure sensor failed ,at less then 10,000 miles .
Only use OEM sensors on any brand vehicle, they are designed to work with the vehicle manufacturers specifications.
How many miles ?
Stepping up to a higher weight oil might help.

OP, can you give some backstory? Mileage on truck, when you first noticed the pressure issue, what/when you did what repair, etc.

The extra info might help. Thanks.

I wonder if it would be possible/feasible to swap the original oil pump type with a newer one like in my 2019 Pentastar? I see huge oil pressure upon startup, like 85 or so, then after a bit of warm-up it holds 45-50. It's some kind of dual-stage pump so maybe not a good fit..?

If I'm not mistaken the engines changed too. I think newer 3.6s have the PUG engines

My 2016 when oils at 200F drops down to 23psi in park idle and 17 in gear at like 500 rpm idle. These Pentastars also have a problem with 2 oil block off bolts in the front of the heads behind the timing cover backing out and dropping oil pressure.
