ordered some PUP oil--instead of 5w20 I got 0w20 seems the 5w20 is out of stock--I have about 3 qts left from previous oil change--any problem mixing the 2 together for this il change--or should I return it and look elsewhere--thanks

I personally would not mix that quantity. In a pinch, maybe one quart. This is me personally, no scientific backing to this statement.

I am just worried about viscosity and engine workability...Have had a little tick evry once in awhile and don't want to create a problem down the road

Ive personally never mixed them and would probably get another brand instead of mixing them but thats me. It may be ok, just something ive never done. I dont mind using different brands of oil.

Is there anything else you are worried about?

5w20 and 0w20 flows the same at operating temp at 8.8 operating temp visc, the only difference is 0w20 flows slightly better in the cold. Your truck isnt even going to notice mixing. Tick is something else usually not related to viscosity at all especially cold tick. It if is warm idle tick you have a small % viscosity matters. Look at hemi tick threads for what to add to oil or run for an oil if you want to deal with that lifter chatter.

Use synthetic oil for the tick if it bothers you. I use it in my Challenger but use conventional oil in my Ram. Ive never had a tick in my Ram. Its a 2007 so not sure the difference in the 5.7 from then to now....and it dosnt have MDS, Challenger does.

PUP is synthetic--didn't think there was going to be a problem just weighing in on what others who have more experience might think--thanks

As long as they are both synthetic then you won't have any problem mixing the two. I wouldn't mix synthetic with non-synthetic though

There's a recipe of sorts involved with blended oils. I wouldn't advise throwing random quarts of each in
True for different brands, but for the same brand?

Listen to Burla! Many of the rest of these guys didn't even read the original question completely. Exact same maker, Penzoil, and series of oil, Ultra synthetic, two very close Viscosity ratings, absolutely nothing to worry about when it come to mixing them.

The 4th gen rams have a known issue with the Cams/Lifters eating each other. From what I have seen, seems most of them happen before 60k. Belief is it is due to the MDS, as the MDS causes lower oil flow near the cam shaft/lifters. One of the reasons most 4th gen owners look for ways to turn off the MDS. (as far as I know... My truck has the stupid thing too, but I don't notice any engagement/disengagement...)

Or it's the exhaust bolt issue. IE the bolts are too brittle for the alum block/iron headers, so as the dissimilar metals expand differently as they heat, the bolts snap. So a lot of us replace the bolts with better, or change the headers out for better, that expand differently as they heat.

I'm 95% sure you are clear of the cam issue, but the bolt issue...
