im wiring up my cb radio. I removed my lower drawer and am going to mount it in that spot. Power question. I have the cigarette power adapter “that’s what I call it”. I removed my keyed power plug on drivers side and my question is..... Can I plug it into that. Tape everything up and tuck it all behind the dash like that? Instead of having it sticking out the port. Also I don’t really want to cut or tap a turning. This way it’s just a simple plug everything back in if I sell. I just don’t wanna start a fire lol. I think it would be fine taped up so nothing touches and it don’t wiggle loose. Any advise

Hey hemi, where are you mounting your antenna and how much feet of cable? Last time I had a cb in a personal vehicle it was my GMC Canyon and didn’t transmit for ****. Could receive though. I have a cobra 25 ltd classic peak and tuned when I was otr. And a Wilson antenna. Probably going to have to have a shop help me once I install it. Idk.

Haven’t ran antenna yet. My plan is for a 4’ fire stick mounted behind the cab on bed rail. Also haven’t got the cable yet. Wanted to make sure it would mount up and look ok or I was gonna go handled. I think I’m going to get 15’ and if I have to wind it up under truck and tie it up I will. Hopefully it all works well. This is an old ass cobra 29 my dad had when he was trucking which I remember as a kid lol.

You need a good ground plane for an antenna to perform well at all. Get some braided copper strap and bond the bed to the frame.. make sure you get good metal to metal contact. Make sure your antenna mount has good metal to metal contact with the bedrail.

18’ is the normal if ya use less it can affect the swr’s. Which Wilson are you gonna to use?
I’m a former otr trucking company owner. Having a good ground is most important for the antenna. The mount should have the plastic washer on top of the bracket.
The higher the better but for off road use it needs to be a lil lower.
I’m probably gonna put my mounts on the outside of the bumper. That way I can still get in my carport.

Yeah I pull in garage too to work on it. I think I’m gonna do a spring so I can bend it over before I pull in garage

Sadly I don’t have a garage. I have 5 acres in the middle of sweltering south f’ing Georgia. I MISS SNOW!!! Anyways, after the rough country 4.5” lift I’ll need a garage with 12’ doors anyways. I’m planning on putting a metal building down within the time frame I’m here since I’ll be renting this place out when I move.

I’ll send a pic of the antenna I have and would appreciate all advice. As for the better ground from bed to frame, I’m assuming grind down to bare metal and paint over it after connection is made with a rust preventing paint? I don’t want to grind down the $66,000 paint job lol (we’ll truck cost anyways).

I personally would prefer a bumper mount as well.

I bought a Hustler mag mount. 100lb magnet... Wow! Anyway putting a 4' fire stick on it. Will have to unscrew when parking in garage but most of the time won't have it deployed. Anyone tried using a mag mount ?

My 2500 has the cargo boxes, and the rails for tie-downs. Haven't verified that they are connected to the vehicle frame, but to act as a ground plane they only need be a quarter wave length... 96" for high channels, and 102" for low ones. Will report back on the mag mount success or failure later today.

I also liked the bed rail idea. I bought the hex, bolt mount kit from eBay but am concerned about the width of metal... looks like the hole will be nearly at the edge of the rail flange. I have an Anytone AT-6666 which works both 10m and 11m bands. Am a ham so it's ok for me. I'll be on 29.6 FM most of the time. FM is now legal on CB...
