lets see, not enough oil came out of the truck, and too much oil is in the truck
i wonder if there isnt something preventing the oil from draining propperly, and perhaps there was 5.7 qaurts in it, you drained, 2.5 and added 5.7
total in the truck just might be 8.9 qaurts
Somehow hydrolocked/airlocked? Drained wrong item? If neither something just not figure

Needs to go get another filter and oil. Dump oil from proper drain and new filter. But truck needs to be level. If using ramps a necessity park in low spot with front end lower using ramps to get truck level. Op also post a pic of which plug u pulled using also like a ruler pointing towards it

Added: op doing regular oil changes cause if u burned 3 1/2 qts off dat is a lot. U need to get fluids checked out and check dat dipstick like every other week when engine cold and level ground.

All above IMHO.

Sounds like a lot of oil for that motor, but I have a different motor.
How often have you checked the oil???????
If you are getting noise because of low oil, you have a serious problem.
did you check it over before you bought it?
You should be checking the oil often if its using oil. double check what the book says and check what that amount shows on the dipstick

Prefilling a filter is not a big deal, some I would , and other it is hard because of location. Don't matter. a few seconds is lots of time to prime the filter, you don't need to run it for 10 m.
If you are using ramps to lift the front end up, after you refill, just back it off the ramps to level ground and then recheck you dipstick.
If you know someone with the same motor, check their dipstick length against the one you have. Something seems strange

My truck is the same as yours. 2012 1500, 4.7 liters, all original. Dipstick is 39", 41⅜ with the handle. Hope this helps, at least dipstick wise.

looks like from the stop on handle to full mark would be 38 inch about.
How much oil do you put in yours?

Looks likes K has not been back for a while.

Well, barring some oddball thing like a severely damaged oil pan which would likely be causing other problems, the capacity of the oil system can't change.

Drain. Fill with specified amount and make note on your dipstick if it's reading way off. Chances are it's the wrong stick or even the wrong tube.
I would agree but the dipstick wouldn't explain the smaller amount that drained out.

If it were me, I'd jack up only the front end and allow it to drain overnight. I'd put it back to the ground and I'd bet more comes out. It doesn't seem like THAT much more would come out but you'd be surprised. Jack it back up in front and see if more comes out again. I don't think your pan is damaged without you knowing. Remember to warm up engine before draining.

Then I'd add back the manufacturer's recommended amount and check again making sure truck is on flat surface.
